    Turner Gill Going Chiz Approach

KC Star reports that Turner Gill has decided to take the names off the back of KU football uniforms.

He has also put in a rule forbidding any coach on his staff from cussing around the players.

Might be in response to how the blob treated the players previously.
Still don't agree with any of it though.

That last part is going to be tough. I've been around only 1 college football program where swearing is not part of the every day vocabulary

Exaggeration is a BILLION times worse than understating.

I believe Turner is religious and is not soley driven by pizza/cheeseburgers.

I don't like this taking the name off the jersey stuff. Do they really think that will have an effect? Coach speech at its best.

As for the cussing, good luck with that.

if its coaches not cussing around players, that's not bad, it is their place of work, however enforcing that to the players would be near impossible.

I agree it will be tough to enforce it to the team, but I think a majority of them will get the point after themselves or other teammates running or doing up downs because of it.

Personally, I see both of those as KU hurting itself recruiting-wise. Yeah, not much, but why hinder yourself? Names on jerseys are good not only for fans but for the players. Some coaches cuss. I wouldn't want to limit my coaching talent search by eliminating those candidates. And I wouldn't want to eliminate recruits who don't want to get yelled at for a curse word here and there.

There is a time and place for cursing. On the field and in the locker room are probably ok. Representing the university in public, probably not. I wouldnt spend too much time on enforcing it, there are more important matters.

Re: Turner Gill Going Chiz Approach

I went to a Catholic high school and our coaches swore a blue streak at us. It's almost impossible not to swear in a football coaching situation unless it's completely absent from your vocabulary.

Obviously, they want to refrain from it in an official capacity, but that's pretty damn easy to do.

I can see how in some regards, Turner might not have been a great fit with the ISU fan base. I think part of CPR's popularity, outside of first year success, is the fact that most fans feel like he's the kind of guy who you could have a beer and shoot the **** with. The no swearing thing, while definitely classy, could be perceived as a little condescending.

I'll be honest, I coached an 8th grade AAU basketball team and it took everything within me to not swear. I managed not to, but that was a low stress situation, I can only imagine how it fighting the urge to swear is in college football.
