    Insult to Injury

On SC this morning, the lead-in to highlights from yesterday's game they showed a Tweet from BF: "Worker at UD arena asked me where I was from--said Iowa State--his response, 'Oh Sorry--but I still hope you enjoy your time in Dayton."

Then, SC goes on to show clips from the '99 game against UConn and proceed to say, "remember the HAWKEYES and threes?"

    Ouch.

Surprised they didn't call us the Buckeyes. Gotta be nice having a national sports network as your personal recruiting tool.

Anyone who has watched the coverage of the womens tourney on ESPN knows they are a joke. Their commentators are anything but neutral and each has a favorite they like to push to the watchers. To bad we can not get unbiased coverage.

    Re: Insult to Injury

At one point in the game the commentators got really quiet. I thought they had finally run out of things to say about UCONN and were going to say something about the great unexpected season that ISU had. Nope. Apparently they dropped all of their UCONN notes on the floor and just had some dead air as they picked them up and put them back in order.

UCONN is a great story, but I'm sure even some of the UCONN faithful are tired of hearing the same thing over and over and would like to hear some of the other great stories out there.

I also really wanted to give ESPN some negative feedback on their visual coverage. There were three times in particular that stuck out to me as poor camera switching work. They missed action (including a three point basket off of an inbounds play) because they were too busy putting up stats graphics or one of their highlight reels. That stuff is called filler for a reason. It is to fill dead times, not to cover up the live action on the court!

I hate this term but it is certainly applicable here. FAIL!

And yet people think that CBS' coverage of the Men's NCAA Tournament is horrible and it should go to ESPN. Um, folks - CBS' coverage may leave a lot to be desired, but if ESPN does take it over, this is what you're going to get!

    Re: Insult to Injury

Every time UConn was on offense, they talked about UConn's offense.
Every time we were on offense, they talked about UConn's defense.

All the commentators on ESPN say that other teams need to step up to beat UConn and reach their level, but I don't know how anyone expects that to happen when ESPN runs UConn recruiting commercials. Those "I am a Huskie" commercials they played during the game could be cool if it was something they did for players on teams besides just UConn. ESPN doesn't even try to hide their bias.

    Re: Insult to Injury

No offense, but we were getting pounded out there. Personally, I'd rather they not try to talk us up. It was obvious we were no where near UConn's caliber to even try to compete with them. No use sugar coating the obvious with more BS talk.

Had it been the other way, ISU beating UConn, and us not getting any talk, I'd feel differently, but there is a point where the obvious truth is just too much to over come. We were lucky to share the court with UConn that day.

    Ouch.
Before the game, one of the ESPN gal announcers almost forgot to add State to Iowa when she was telling bwout the upcoming game. Lobo or someone like her....it was quite noticeable

Maybe we need jerseys to read:

    Iowa STATE

Let my Fred's Posse Ride: Georges, Naz, Hogue, Bryce, Nader, Monte, Matt, and McKay.

I expect them to talk UConn, UConn, UConn but the "I am a Huskie" thing was WAY too much unless you do it for the other teams also. Agree with you that they were just like recruiting commercials for UConn. At first I was stupid enough to think we would see Aus in an "I am a Cyclone" but we won't see anything similar unless Baylor advances. Than get ready for a "I am a Bear" with Rocky Griner.

I thought the same thing — I assumed they did one of those for a player on each S-16 team. After I had seen the Husky spot twice, I realized Aus wasn't getting one.

Or maybe they had one, but weren't going to show it unless the Sisters were ahead midway through the second half?

Nah, I'd already seen it before Sunday, so I'm sure there weren't any more. I think they showed it during one of the Hilton games...?

Exactly... talk about how good of a team UConn is, but unless you're gonna do it with everyone, nobody gives a **** that Maya Moore is a drummer.
