Tweety Carter did a great job leading the team and Udoh was much better than expected. That and they switched to a zone and went from a horrific defensive team to a pretty good one

    Dunn, Carter, Acy, Udoh, Lomers

It was crazy to pick that team near the bottom.

We traded spots with them for a future #1 draft pick.

Re: Baylor was picked to finish 10th in the Big 12

Great coaching, recruiting, being mentally and physically tough will allow you to exceed expectations. Somehow ISU was able miss expectations while being picked 8th.

BTW, in watching this NCAA tourney as a whole, ISU has a LONG ways to go before even thinking about the NCAA tourney again. Almost every team, including mid-majors, is more mentally and physically tough then any team McD has put on the court here in the last 4 seasons.

With the low basketball IQ, guys leaving the team, lack of fundamentals and our lack of weight training program (have you seen ISU compared to other BCS schools, we do not even look like we belong on the same floor) I would guess it would be at least 3 years before the NCAA tourney is a valid hope. I say this assuming McD does not coach next season. If he does, this puts the NCAA tourney hopes back further.

People who are basketball degenerates and watch games every night of the week have been wondering this all year. I really hope it happens with McD. I mean who doesn't.. but sometimes common sense kicks in and you start realizing how far away we actually are and wonder if it is even possible by doing the same things we have been doing the last 4 years.

Re: Baylor was picked to finish 10th in the Big 12

we finished 9th last year. we graduated 3 1000 point scorers. Udoh did not look like this in michigan. Some coaches are annoyed by Drew.

10th was too low regardless, but I wouldn't have guessed 2nd in the big12 and elite 8 ever.

As mentioned the switch to zone really helped. We have a much more traditional line up and much much more effective height. We'd go 4 guards and a small forward in crunch time last year. Now we go with 3 guys taller than any of those. Tweety has turned into a hell of a leader as well.

They massively underachieved last year. Maybe a little less "talent" this year, but played much better.

Walton is pretty much under valued. That guy puts in some serious good minutes.

Lomers is also highly underrated... and I dont just say that because I sat next to him, Tweet, and Udoh during the first round of the Big 12 tournament (seat stealers they were)

I think we overachieved more the year before. We had a stable of athletic guards, but that does not make a good team.

Agreed on both. Without Lomers there's a decent chance we lose the ODU game. Walton has been a surprise, probably our best 1-on-1 perimeter defender, and will step in for Tweety next year.
