    Teams versus Baylor and Griner

Tennessee is getting owned by Griner who we killed this season. Maybe they need to look at the tape and see how you make Griner a factor in your gameplan rather than a factor in the game.

ISU played Baylor to perfection. Why is it that ISU seems to be the only team that has bracketed her all game long? I know that you leave someone else open, but Baylor can't shoot the ball so you can easily zone the rest of the team.

That's why we trust Bill and Company. Let's hope their game plan for UConn works to perfection.

Is Pat still the coach or will she be fired?

I'm not questioning ISU's gameplan, but wasn't Baylor's best guard injured for that game?

If so, that makes it a lot easier to play Griner like that.

In my opinion there is nothing Summitt can do to get herself fired, and rightfully so. Tennessee is a perennial powerhouse for one reason, and it is because she has been the top coach in the game -- yes, I said better than Geno -- for 35 years. If eight national championships and seven SEC Coach of the Year awards doesn't get you a lifetime contract, nothing will.

Baylor is a different team when Melissa Jones plays. She didn't play against us. Jones is their only consistent outside shooter.

Good point. Remember also we played them once - at Hilton.
Texas A&M fans could say what's so hard about beating ISU - they pounded us at College Station.

True, but OSU would just tell you to play us w/o Lacey; and it still wasn't easy.

Re: Teams versus Baylor and Griner

IMO, you need to move Griner away from the basket and make her defend on the move. We did a very good job of using the player she was guarding on high screens, making her either switch and guard our guards (usually AL) or not hedge out and having our guard shoot the 3. When BG has to guard in space, she's not as effective as being right around the basket. Another thing we had was AP shooting 3's. Certainly that drew BG away from the basket and opened it up for our other post players.

Tennessee tried this a couple times and had some success with it, but didn't stick to it. BG will get blocks and change shots if she's allowed stay around the basket.

Mulkey is looking for some rule changes:

    1. There will be no three second rule for Griner
    2. If you try to make her leave the paint to guard someone it will be a technical foul.
    3. If you guard Griner at ALL it will be a foul.
    4. If you double team her it will be deliberate foul with free throws and retained procession.
    5. No fouls may be called against Griner.

Aren't 3 and 5 already rules or are they just at the refs discretion ??

As a big Pat Summit fan, I have to be honest. Her offensive gameplan stunk like a skunk. She thought powering the ball up on Griner would work. She obviously didn't watch any film on Griner in Big 12 play. Griner just stands there and blocks shots. Agree that you have to make Griner move. Pat puts way too much value in size, and it was clear that the Baylor players were running circles around TN.

Ironically, the two Big 12 teams to make the elite eight, are two teams that ISU won against this year, albeit at home, but both were pretty sound victories. Yes, Jones was a factor to some degree against TN, but it was the Baylor freshmen that were the real stars. With her incoming recruiting class, and those talented fresh/sophomores, Baylor is going to be a force the next few years for sure.

Mulkey has a 6 8 beast of player, and she jumps and hollers that she is fouled all the time. I have to say the one time Kelly Cain whacked her in the face while shooting was definitely a foul, but when Griner has that kind of size advantage, she should be prepared to take a little contact.
