    anyone have FT and 3 pt numbers for Vette?

    He looks physical, and that alone might be enough to help ISU, but I always like to see guys that can make FTs and big guys that can at least be a threat outside.

    I don't have the numbers, but I know he has 3 point range, but I know he struggles from the free throw line.

    can someone please explain to me how someone who can drain 3-pointers can struggle at the ft line?

    A lot of basketball players shoot well from the field and not at the free throw line.

    I have seen the mediacom replays of the 3-A state championship and Vette dominated that game. And he was going up against Brennan Cougill, who is a highly rated prospect for the 2009 prospect.

    Vette has a sweet stroke with touch from the 3 point line, and he is very active in the paint...it seemed like he got every rebound for Waverly. He is a very versatile, and smart player.

    I don't really care much about his 3-point shooting percentage stats. He's a post player and shouldn't shoot many 3s unless he has to. At 6ft 9in and 245lbs, he should be banging down low. That is my opinion though. Some people like to see big guys launch up 3's all the time, but seeing big guys like Jiri launching threes during a game is something I do not like to see.

    These numbers represent the entire season including non-conference games.

    Free Throws 69/126 = 54.8%
    3 pt. Shots. 19/59 = 32.2%
    All Field Goals 165/305 = 54.1%

    I don't care how big he is if he can shoot from 3 point land, but a 32% HS shooter isn't going to help us much in that department. We desperately need help however as we finished dead last in Big 12 3pt FG% last season. Haven't had anybody consistently shot the 3 ball since Jake. Taylor is ok but, to streaky and it wouldn't hurt us for other people who really aren't 3pt shooters like Clark to keep their gun in their pocket once in awhile.

    Clark is a set shooter. He shot the ball very well as a sophomore. I think he shot 38-40% as a sophomore. Thats pretty darn good. He was living off of Curtis's and Will's penetration last year. I thought he did a good job of trying to change his game this year. He is not a jump shooter. I think he realizes that now, lets just how he can round out his game. As good as everyone thought Jake was at shooting the 3. He was only 82 or 214 for .383 his Senior year. The difference is that he shot the ball A LOT! I really hope Steiger(sp) is as good of a sharp shooter as advertised.

    Actually, I don't think 38% three point shooting is bad (Sullivan Sr. Yr.) Secondly, I doubt we are gonna ask Vette to shoot a lot of threes. I'm recalling some threads early in the BB season...something about Jiri....

    I don't expect Vette to be shooting 10 3's a game, 3 point shooting is a good indication that the guy has some sort of a shot. His FT percentage is far from impressive, but I have seen guys improve their FT % over 20% in college. Lets hope for that to happen because there is nothing more painful than watching big guys brick 2/3rds of thier FTs.

    Can he slap the hell out of other post players and man up on the basket? Thats all I want. If he can power the ball into the hoop, and we have shooters on the outside, thats all i can ask.

    Agreed, however he needs to be able to shoot 65-70% from the free throw line too. Those should be free points! A few missed free throws decide many ball games (see KU game, 2007).
