Finally some footage from the 80's, the only other iowa state football video from back then on youtube is highlights of barry sanders running wild over us.

I remember that game well. Oberg couldn't miss...he was on fire Made me totally sick when the Cyclones lost! The only good thing about those unis, in my opinion is when they got rid of them...ewww ugly!

I think that team looks better than the teams we have fielded the last few years. IMHO, the unis look ok except for the helmets. I like the jerseys.

No way. Our current unis are WAY better than those things. For one, we're actually wearing Cardinal and Gold nowadays instead of red and yellow.

Re: 1989 Iowa State vs #25 Oklahoma

Tremendous talent on the offensive side of the ball.

RB Bryant had some AA honors in '89.
TE Busch had some AA honors in '89.
QB Oberg had the most efficient season in ISU history at the time (he might still-too lazy to look)

OL had pros in Keith Sims and Gene Williams.

Shudak was ISU's best kicker ever (w/ respect to Alex Giffords and Goedgen (sp?)

The defense did have pro-bowl db Marcus Robinson and some over acheiving linemen.

This team launched Walden to short term respect and made him a favorite for the Wisconsin job the next year. In fear of losing him, Urick extended his contract and Wiscy hired Walden's good friend Barry Alverez. (they worked together @ Nebraska)

Re: 1989 Iowa State vs #25 Oklahoma

Interesting find, I do believe our jerseys and logo we have now should never change. Half of getting your program out their to fans and recruits is recognition. If we're changing unis and logos all the time ppl aren't gonna recognize Iowa State when they should.

Re: 1989 Iowa State vs #25 Oklahoma

That was back when I was in school there. I was at that game. Probably a few sheets to the wind though.

Who was the WR #42 for us back then? Some real sweet moves on that very first highlight for the long TD reception. That is what our current team needs badly. Last year, our WR would have been tackled after the catch for about a 15 yd gain instead of taking it to the house.
