    Johnson-Lynch’s Agrees to Contract Extension

AMES, Iowa – After leading the Iowa State University volleyball program to its third-straight Sweet 16 appearance, head volleyball coach Christy Johnson-Lynch has agreed to a contract extension to continue coaching the Cyclones for the next five years.

Johnson-Lynch's contract, which was extended to December 31, 2014, pays her $130,000 annually and includes a retention payment of $100,000 if she remains at Iowa State through the end of her contract.

Johnson-Lynch was named 2009 Big 12 Coach of the Year and Asics/Volleyball Magazine National Coach of the Year after leading the Cyclones to a 27-5 overall record and a second-place conference finish with a 17-3 record. Both win totals eclipsed the previous school records and Iowa State earned a No. 6 ranking in the final American Volleyball Coaches Association poll.

    Good news

Why only extend it to 2014 though?

Just curious, does anyone know where that ranks among other volleyball coaches. I would assume it would be towards the top.

Re: Johnson-Lynch’s Agrees to Contract Extension

I don't really know that much about the economics of Volleyball coaching...is this a high salary compared to other schools? I mean, I wouldn't expect she's making as much as, for instance, Penn State's head coach, but does anyone have a comparison with other Top 25 programs?

Haven't found a list yet, but its a little disturbing that CU's coach is making 142,000 base according to this article:

My guess is because she'll want to renegotiate salary after she takes us to a couple final fours.

Re: Johnson-Lynch’s Agrees to Contract Extension

Golly Jamie Pollard clearly does not have a clue to what he is doing .

Fennelly, Christy Johnson, Paul Rhodes.......... Now if McDermott would retain talent we will be set.

Re: Johnson-Lynch’s Agrees to Contract Extension

I'm not sure that article is correct, or at least complete.

    I could've swore she signed a 5 year, 750K deal last year....

Christy Johnson Signs Five-Year Contract - Iowa State University Athletics Official Web Site - www.CYCLONES.com - The home of Iowa State Cyclone Sports

Edit: I guess it does give her another year. But the base is lower.
