    Calipari or McDermott

Would you rather have McDermott coaching a team that was again below .500 and that was in the bottom of the Big 12, no cheating or sleazy deallings or Calipari as our coach and going to the Final Four but with the cloud of possible NCAA violations hanging over the program?

tough call. I'd go with something in between squeaky clean and blatant violations. There is a grey area that is between the two which would be fantastic.

    Re: Calipari or McDermott

None of the above. I mean, you'll have those people on here that will point at his Final Four appearances and the banners hanging at UMass and Memphis and will say that winning triumphs all and it's worth getting a little dirty in order to bring this program to prominence, but is it? I mean, look into what has happened at UMass and Memphis upon his departure - the NCAA made UMass and Memphis vacate those wins and take those banners down. It's as if those Final Four appearances didn't exist. So no, I don't want Calipari anywhere near Ames. That being said, we all know about McDermott, and I really don't want him here either.

No doubt in my mind i would rather have calipari. I would take him over just about any other coach in the nation. The man is an amazing recruiter, cheating or not cheating.

    Re: Calipari or McDermott

None of the above, but if I had to pick, I'll take Calipari. Amongst the possible violations, he'd give you some good times as a fan. Something I've rarely experienced in the last 4 years.

The NCAA really doesn't screw with Cal all that much, its his players who ultimately pay for his sins in the long run.

    Exactly. Id choose neither.

If you have to choose, its a tough call though.

Gmac- Lose for however many years you have him (looks like 5-9 now?)
Calipari- Win for however long you have him, then end up with ncaa penalties and have some bad seasons due to that.

Either way, sounds like you get some bad seasons... one of them you get some winning too. Tough call...

I'm sick of squeaky clean and complete suckiness. Give me the slimeball Calipari and a run at the Final Four, followed by NCAA sanctions.

    Re: Calipari or McDermott

Better question would be Bobby Knight vs. Calipari?

Bobby had his faults, but ran clean programs.

I never go for cheaters and don't think ISU should either.

That gray area goes by a few other names (e.g. Tim Floyd, Larry Eustachy, Wayne Morgan).

I'm really surprised this is even close. How could you vote against watching players like John Wall, Derrick Rose, or Tyreke Evans?

McD...the cheating is not the Iowa State way and should never be expected or allowed at ISU.

We would win a lot of games four three or for years then be on probation, which couldn't be much worse than right now.

    Re: Calipari or McDermott

I doubt Calipari is ever found guilty of anything while he's at Kentucky. I'm sure he's very good at what he does and now that he's at one of the two best programs in college basketball he'll be very careful.
