Planning Bday party for my wife

I've read some pretty good posts on here in response to people asking for opinions or ideas. so, here it goes...

I'm in the process of gathering ideas on what to do for my wife's upcoming 30th bday. I live in Ames and have considered a few places to hold a party but have kind of reached standstill on this. I also have considered having friends and family over for a cookout, celebration, etc.

My wife and I were tallking about what do a while back and she mentioned going to Vegas or somewhere else for a short weekend to celebrate; however, I'm not convinced this is what I should work on (i.e., turning 30 should be celebrated/mocked with friends and family).

Any ideas, stories to tell, suggestions on what to do? I have a couple of months until her birthday so there is some flexibility with scheduling. Thanks...

Don't you know, 30 is the new 18. I think you're much too young to think that 30 is the proper age for being mocked, etc. by family and friends. Wait for 40, or even 50 for that. If she wants to go to Vegas, go to Vegas. (That helps ensure you will be spending future milestone birthdays with her, by the way.) Then have the party you want her to have.

I guess I would really look at how she mentioned Vegas or going some other place. You may want to make sure you are not ignoring her wishes to plan what you think it should be. You will not live that one down if you do and she really wanted a trip.

If it was just in passing within a larger conversation of many options she brought up you are probably okay going in another direction.

I would just be careful if I were you.

Re: Planning Bday party for my wife

I held a surprise birthday party for my wife. There was an event that she was involved with down the street so everyone just came to our house. Other people were invited and stopped in during the afternoon. The best part was I just mentioned it and everyone else did the work and I received the credit.

Re: Planning Bday party for my wife

My golden birthday was my 30th(born on March 30th).

My wife(fiance at the time) threw a surprise party for me at her house. We went out for dinner with another couple and then came back to her house for something. Walked down into the basement and it was full of friends and family. They had a small keg on tap and it was really fun evening of jokes and drinks.

It totally surprised me and is still one of my fondest memories.

Compromise and do both. Go to Vegas and head straight to the Moon-lite Bunny Ranch.

I should have expanded...She's not much for the potential hoopla of a party or being the center of attention. she doesn't freak out about it, just not her comfort zone. Therefore, she mentioned a trip to avoid a party and all that. I'm convinced that a party is what she needs/deserves but it sure would be a lot easier planning a trip

I'd go with the trip. Seems like you can hold the party for 40 when it is always expected.

    Good rule of thumb:

Do what the wife wants (if it's within budget) and make sure she makes the guest list.

Sounds like she wants to go to Vegas. Trust me do what she wants. You only get on shot at this make it a good one.

Invite another couple to make the trip to Vegas with you and surprise her with that once you are in Vegas.

This. Good plan. The only thing you would have to worry about is if the Lumberyard plan you passed on for Vegas ends up being what she really wanted. Then you will be in trouble.

There might be a place like the Lumberyard in Vegas, as well. I'm not sure though, Vegas is pretty wholesome.
