Looks like typical Alford self-promotion. According to the article headline from ESPN insiders rumors, he has already been eliminated from consideration.

That's assuming the credibility of ESPN Insider. More often than not they are throwing things to the wall to see if things stick, and as a result are wrong much more often than they are right. And when they are right, it's usually in "no **** Sherlock" fashion. It's a really great site to get the sports conspiracy theorists talking.

I'm not saying that Alford is still a candidate for the Oregon job - I'm just saying ESPN Insider is about the equivalent of using the National Enquirer as a credible news source. I mean, how right were they when they were reporting that McDermott was likely on his way out of Ames?

Don't give up hope. Remember that some AD took a football coach with a loosing record off our hands.

Most times the "insider" is the coach's agent throwing his name out there to leverage more money at the current job.

Re: Oregon is considering Steve Alford

Really glad he's not coaching in this state anymore. We had to hear about him on a weekly basis back then and now it's only once in a while.

Looks like he is making some progress. He did win one NCAA Torney game this year...
