    Even dumber question

I've always been an electric razor guy, with no skin issues.
Recently went to manual razor for a closer shave, but it is killing my skin. I am a bona fide redneck. Anyone have any solutions?

    Re: Even dumber question

I shave my head 2-3 times/week and sometimes get razor burn.
    Tips:
    Use a sharp razor
Use good shaving cream, and plenty of it.
Don't go over the same areas numerous times, usually once or twice will do it.
    Use a sharp razor

I'm pretty sure that it can be solved by replacing McDermott.

Sorry, but I figured I would beat them to the punch. This thread, too, will get there eventually.

    Re: Even dumber question

I use a gel, I think it works the best. I also heat my razor up with HOT water, it seems to help. I haven't found a big difference going with or against the grain. Always make sure the thing is sharp. I also think it will take awhile for your skin to get used to it. I have always used the tradition razor so I suppose my skin is used to it.

your skin and whiskers need to be as warm and wet as possible. if you are able to shave in a hot steamy shower with lotion/gel AND a SHARP razor, try that.

    Good advice here.
I agree, the gel is better than regular shaving cream IMO.
Hot water is also another good tip.

For me, going against the grain of the hair makes a minor difference. If you are just starting to use a real razor, maybe shave with the grain until your skin gets used to it, then you can go against the grain to get a closer shave.

I'm gonna have to disagree with the gel thing. I used to use gel until I forgot to bring it to my parents one time. Borrowed a can of my dad's Barbasol and haven't looked back.

    Re: Even dumber question

Thanks. I grew up in an electric family so it was all I ever learned. I'll have to try the gel. Been using Barbosol for sensitive skin. But my babyface just can't take it.
Are there any aftershaves out there that won't have me smelling like my grandpa?

If you don't use gel you don't have man hair

A stupid man, but a man.

    Edit: Are you 40?

Be careful while manscaping. The skin is more sensitive down there. I recommend a good wax over shaving.
