    Advanced Biology courses...

Any good ones you've had experience with? Really not wanting to end up in Dendrology.

Biology 423 and the lab to go with it was a great one. It's take home tests where you can work with anyone or any professor.
Biology 393A and 393B. Boundary Waters field trip.
Biology 355. Plants and People. I know it sounds boring, but it is pretty interesting especially since it's taught by Dr. Wallace.
Biology 354. Animal Behavior. Pretty interesting if you would like to know why animals do certain things.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Are you an NREM or Forestery major? If not, I would not recommend taking dendrology unless you REALLY like trees. It is a good course for people who need the info for their careers, but it is intense and requires LOTS of memorization.

Not for the BIOL major looking to pick up some upper level restricted electives to graduate.

    I agree with GMackey32:

Biology 355. Plants and People. (My wife took it and really enjoyed it)

Yeah, not a forestry major. Simply a BIOL major.

Entomology 211 = Insects and Society
    Entomology 411 - Insect Ecology

Granted, 211 isn't exactly advanced, but I found it fascinating and ultimately, changed my major to entomology.

I don't remember 411 being offered when I was a student, so not sure how hard.

That's because Bio 212 is a "weed-out" course. Get through that and 312-314 and you'll be fine. After the required classes, it gets a lot better.

    Re: Advanced Biology courses...

The History of Science and Religion was the most interesting class I took at Iowa State. Very cool stuff.....although I don't think it had science credits....philosophy and religious studies I think.
