Police Officer helps - out of his own pocket

As much as the police tend to get a bad rap, it's nice to see one get recognized for going above and beyond on the job...

Is that sarcasm? When is the last time you personally shelled out $60 for a stranger? He could have taken the easy way out and written a ticket. The kid would still be unsafe and the mother probably still wouldn't be able to afford a car seat. Instead he decided to do what small thing he could to make a change in one mother and child's life. How do we know he hasn't done this before but this is the first time it has made the media?

If it wasn't sarcasm, I apologize. It certainly reads that way.

Agree completely! $60 is a lot of money for me, personally, and I also know it is a lot of money for my brother in law who is a deputy. Especially to give it to a complete stranger. My girlfriends birthday present is not going to be much more than that.

Very nice of him. I've been pulled over three times for trival things by University Heights officers but never gotten a ticket. They all kind of come off as dicks in my expereince (compared to U of I and Iowa City police). Glad to see something like this to change that perception.

Personally, I thought the poster meant "Wow, $60 is a lot of money for a car seat. I had no idea they cost that much." We have a wicked way of seeing the worst in so many comments posted here.

And, in all honesty, that's "cheap" for a car seat. Many are $150+ depending on the type of seat and the age of the child.

What a great act of kindness by the policeman.

Considering the poster I highly doubt the comment was that innocent.

Yes, that's exactly what I meant. Not a lot of people would shell out $60 for someone they don't know.

You know what would have helped? Stating the second part in your first post. Could have avoided a lot of negative comments that way.
