Was That a "Smart Shot" by Ali?

    You got the ball....

    + With a 1-pt lead.....

+ with 0:29 on the shot clock...

+ and 0:34 on the game clock....

+ and no rebounders anywhere in sight....when you launch a deep Trey ?@??@?

For Gawd sake, make them foul you, you got the ball in the hands of an 84% FT shooter.

    Ali Farokhmanesh.
Some folks may not be able to pronounce his name........Farokhmanesh was standing beyond the 3-point line when he caught the ball on the right wing with 29 seconds on the shot clock and 34 seconds on the game clock. Instead of stalling and running the clock, he fired up an uncontested shot that swished through the net.

Just like that, Northern Iowa led 66-62. Kansas never threatened again.

“I knew we were going to have to take a shot eventually,” Farokhmanesh said. “So I figured I’d take a good one.”

If he was guarded then I wouldn't advise it, but he was wide open. the only other way you are that open is if you are on the charity stripe.

It's only a mistake if he misses it.

Re: Was That a "Smart Shot" by Ali?

I will agree that it was risky, but Ali was the same guy that hit the three to beat UNLV. He was the guy to shoot it and the fact that Kansas didn't cover him just added insult to injury.

Re: Was That a "Smart Shot" by Ali?

With the way they were struggling not to turn the ball over I think it was a fantastic shot and was yelling at him to shoot it. If he gets fouled it is still a 3 point game even if he makes both. Take the open shot. Loved it

Re: Was That a "Smart Shot" by Ali?

Yes. The guy was confident, like he knew he was going to make it. He basically strolled up to the line, set, and shot. KU looked like a bunch of fools. Fantastic stuff.

Shot goes in...Ben Jacobson is a great coach.
Shot doesn't go in...Ben Jacobson is a terrible coach and he needs to get control over his players, to teach them time and score.

Re: Was That a "Smart Shot" by Ali?

KU was getting the ball back anyway you slice it for the last shot to tie or win...the only way that wasn't happening was for UNI to make a 3. He is the best shooter and was WIDE OPEN. They weren't going to get another look that good.

This is exactly right. It's pretty much the same shot Dendy took against UNI. If Dendy would've made his shot, it probably would've put the game away and he would've been a hero; as it was, it may have cost us the game.

Re: Was That a "Smart Shot" by Ali?

It was a good shot. KU was coming on strong and UNI was getting destroyed by the defensive pressure. They needed to step up and put the game away on that posession, because getting fouled and giving the ball back to KU, I really felt that KU would make the shot to either go to OT or get the W, and I didn't think UNI had a shot in OT.
