I'm sure when he won the conference title he wasn't expecting to be canned a few weeks later.

Just to clarify, Houston won the conference tourney. Houston was 7-9 in conference this year, and finished in 7th place.

Mediocre season and win the conference tourney. Wasn't Iowa already on that plan a few years back with Alfraud?

wow....i would think that if ISU came calling Tim may be willling to come back. Got to think ISU is a better job than Houston!

    Re: Penders Out at Houston

I would say he got Bobby Douglased.

I was just going by what was reported and also what I have heard. Gillespie wouldn't surprise me. Knows the Texas recruiting very well.

    Re: Penders Out at Houston

I think some are getting too hung up on the Houston tourney appearance this year. Again, as I mentioned earlier, Houston was not stellar this year. The got hot and played into the tourney, and promptly got bounced.

Houston wants more relevance for their MBB program (i.e the Phi Slamma Jamma days). And really, they should be able to get past where they are now, as they are a big (30,000 undergrads) school in a big city with a huge recruiting base. Even though Penders played himself into the tourney this year, Houston really wasn't on the "Phi Slamma Jamma" road...theyhaven't finished better than 3rd in C-USA under Penders, and have only been to the NCAA tourney once (this year). The two prior years have been CBI (which is a downgrade from Penders' first two years in which Houston went tot the NIT).

If guys like Gillespie and Floyd are interested, I don't fault Houston for taking the chance to move to the next level. It just doesn't look like Penders was getting them there.

Sooo... "Practices ethical recruiting" is like number 57 on their list of qualifications?

I don't know where it ranks on their list. Where do think it was on ISU's list when they hired Floyd? Certainly you don't think Floyds recruiting "methods" started after he left the Bulls...
