Hire Wayne Morgan as Asst Coach

This was suggested on another thread, but I think it's a great idea. Wayne was an awesome recruiter, he has a proven track record of getting skilled players to ISU, and he was the best at taking a kid aside (after a LE berating) and getting him to feel comfortable and needed in our program. It seems to me this last element is missing in the McDermott Regime and maybe Wayne could get kids to stick around.

Did he leave ISU on good terms? It may be weird for him and JP, but this is also an oppurtunity for Pollard to create a little buzz for next season. I'd be interested to see what Morgan could do.

I have heard his business no longer exists. He would be a decent guy to hire. I think he is that type of players coach and recruiter that would fit nicely.

I don't think it happens. I doubt he wants to come back here and work for the school that he thinks fired him unjustly. I just cannot see him doing it.

Besides Will and Curtis what great players did he bring to ISU? Mac and staff had brought more talent to Ames than Morgan did.

Would you work for someone who fired you in the past (not because of a mass-layoff or cut-cutting) ?

I wonder if they would get along after their F-bomb war back when they played.

I'm sorry, but there is no way that happens. Wayne and Mac almost came to blows mid-court up at UNI his last year, and I'm sure Pollard is not Morgan's favorite person.

You do realize in college basketball that coaching is more important than talent right? DO you realize the pure irony of your statement? McDermott has brought in more "great players" than Morgan, yet Morgan had 4 more conference wins in one complete less season than McDermott.

I mean, I could go on..I could list the NIT run and NCAA 2nd round...actually beating more than one ranked team...etc

So what's your point? And you really think someone like Diante Garrett is better than a Curtis Stinson? Both were ranked almost the exact same coming out of high school, except Stinson averaged almost 20 points, 5 assists, 5 rebounds his junior year. How many players for ISU have even done that or come close? Not THAT many.

Coaching is WAY more important in college than talent. In the NBA it's the other way around because you have the best players in the world who are near automatic. Most players in NCAA will never even suit up in the NBA, they aren't THAT good, so coaching matters.

I disagree and think talent is 90% of the battle. I think our talent has just been grossly overstated the last few years.

Wrong - You justified my response with your NBA quote. One issue is we think we have the talent. Bottom line is you either make the shot or you don't if the other team makes more you lose.

Yeah...I'm guesing Bill Self wouldn't have quite pulled off the #1 seed in the NCAA tourney coaching this year's ISU team.

In the major conferences, talent matters, big-time. Anybody who says otherwise just isn't paying attention...

In the words of coach Orr, the team with the most talent usually wins. Homan and Vroman who were not Wayne's recurits are the reason those teams went to postseason play and Wayne won those games. Mix in good guard play, that Morgan did bring to Ames and good things happened. What happened once Homan was gone? What Mac has missed on is the guards that Morgan had in those good years. Put Will and Curtis with this team and you have something special.

Coaching doesn't matter in major conferences? okay..whatever you say. Ask any Division 1 or NBA coach and they'll agree that coaching is just as, if not more important, than talent.

You honestly think BYU is beating Florida by 13 points with under 9 minutes to go right now because BYU has more talented players? Get real.

I'm going to have to agree to disagree. Obviously talent matters, but it only matters so much. The exception is when you are a ridiculous NBA talent like John Wall.

We all know George Mason and Davidson, for example, got so far in their tournaments because they had superior talent to the teams they play. Oh wait..no they didn't.
