It will be tough but if those are the only two things you are concentrating on then you'll be fine. If you get Robert Gregorac for either of those classes, just drop it. He is the worst professor I've ever had.

I didn't think calc 3 was all that bad, as far as I was concerned it was considerably easier than calc 2.

I really think it depends on the teacher.

I took diff eq during the summer, I thought it was the easiest of i-iv. Teacher was great, which is always key. I wouldn't think taking both would be suicidal, but my preference would have been taking one of them with a more cake class.

In my opinion its no different than taking two different english or chemistry or engineering classes. Yes they are both tough math classes, but they are completely different concepts.

I think that you will be fine if you stay caught up with the material.

If you do, be sure to do all your homework.

I think the two classes are actually different enough that you should be ok. I struggled a bit with Calc 3, but I think that's more because I was taking it during my "goof off and skip about 2/3's of the sessions for classes I don't enjoy" phase. I wouldn't reccomend that.

2 classes only should be a piece of cake.

Re: is taking calc 3 and diff eq during the summer suicide?

I think you have the right idea by taking at DMACC at least. I started business calc at ISU with an American prof but was completely lost in the class about 1/3 of the way through so dropped it and took it over the summer at DMACC. A HS math teacher taught the course and I was able to comprehend the material WAY better than this guy with all the fancy degrees at ISU was teaching the same stuff.

In hindsight I wish I had taken more of my gen eds at DMACC as I probably would have done better in them and understood them more. I took Econ 101, Accounting 284, and Math 151 at DMACC over 2 summers and looking back wished I had taken a handful more courses like those there. Some people just learn better in the smaller and more simplistic environment than in a class of around 400 people where the prof is just going through the motions half the time and doesn't care if you understand the material or not. Math courses being the worst at ISU too, I think I took math and stats twice each there because the first prof I got just didn't teach it in a manner that I was able to do as well as I needed to in that course.

I took calculus 1 and 2 at ISU then took calc 3 at dmacc and it was the easiest thing I had ever done in my life. Highly recommended.
