    Gilstrap's scholarship

I was just wondering if anyone knew MG's plans. Even though the NCAA gave him the shaft does he still qualify for a scholarship to finish his degree or is he going to make the jump into pro ball and start earning a paycheck for his family?

I could be mistaken but I thought that athletes that used up their eligibility and were in good academic standing could finish up their degree without tuition costs after they were done competing. It is in ISU's best interest that they eventually graduate.

I heard he was going to Iowa to play for B.J. Armstrong, and apply for another so. jr. and sr. season like Settles.

    Re: Gilstrap's scholarship

It should have come as no surprise that Gilstrap's NCAA appeal was denied. I was more surprised it was filed in the first place. The case lacked two things: adequate documentation and a player who really wanted to come back for another year to begin with. That's not to say Gilstrap wouldn't have returned had that option been available. It would have been something for him to at least consider. But sources close to the program have told me that as the season went south, so did Gilstrap's desire to spend a second year at ISU.

    Re: Gilstrap's scholarship

He'll probably do what Ellis Hobbs did a few years back. take summer and online courses from Iowa State until he graduates.
