Iowa v. ISU & Coaching Changes

I know a lot of people around here thought that ISU was in a better spot than Iowa a few weeks ago. I'm wondering with the loss of three starters and Buckley, if people still think that is the case.

Also wondering if Barta pulling the trigger on Lick has swayed anyone as to what Pollard should do with McDermott. I know you never make decisions based on what someone else does, but given the similarities between the programs at this time, I think it's an apt comparison.

We weren't as bad off this season as iowa was... our last regular season game was a win over a top 10 team, while they were setting records for biggest losses in program history..

Once mcdermott sets a record for most losses in a season at ISU, then it'll be comparable

Looks to me that Barta has more guts to admit his mistakes after 3 years than our A/D does after 4 years....

Re: Iowa v. ISU & Coaching Changes

Can I wait to vote after I see how their coaching search goes? If it's similar to ISU circa 2002 and they get tuned down by their first 4 options it may not get much better for them.

I'm not overly worried about them being "1 year ahead" because afterall, GMac was one year ahead of Lick, and that isn't working out so hot.

I don't really want any of their recruits.

I agree, especially with your last statement. We weren't good this year, in fact, we were bad, but we were a long, long way from being 10-22. That is just dismal. That is why I think we're still ahead of Iowa.

Depending on whom EIU hires eventually.
Was Lick the first choice when they hired him ? Can EIU hire a big-name coach or a bright young star ?

Re: Iowa v. ISU & Coaching Changes

What University of Iowa does should have no impact on what we do. Each program has different problems that ultimately made their decisions. Mainly money was a big one as we cannot afford it and Iowa can (just base of their department budget). Also, Barta is probably worried that only 2000 people actually show up to their games. Our estimates are 6000-7000 towards the end of the season(a little worrying, but nothing compared to Iowas attendance).

Re: Iowa v. ISU & Coaching Changes

I think that Iowa was in a better position actually. They had good freshman this year and Gatens and are bringing in some good young recruits for next year. We lost Staiger, Brackins, Gilstrap, and Hamilton this year. All starters at the beginning of the year, and are bringing in probably 4 jucos this year. With so many defections and juco players it is hard to build a program. This was a very good year for Iowa State to fire McD because we lose so much, but unfortunately we couldn't do it because of money. Iowa on the other hand has the money to buy out their coach. The money i think is the biggest difference because you can argue both sides regarding who is worse off but the fact is they are both in a pretty bad state.

There's still a good chance the university will allow them to break their LOIs. At least that's what usually happens when coaches are canned.

Re: Iowa v. ISU & Coaching Changes

    Hey,

Because Lick and GMac are "State" employees, could we just swap them and call it even. Sort of like Lick transfer to the ISU branch and GMac transfer to the Iowa City branch? Just a thought, at least Lick doesn't have the Huge contract to buy out.

Gatens it the only one worth going for on their roster. But he's an Iowa City guy so no chance in that.
