    General Observation From State

Sorry I could of put this in the other thread. Mods you could merge this.. Three things from this game.

    1. Doug can shoot from long range. Barnes can shoot from anywhere inside 3.

    2. Ames looks to be sleep walking through this.

    3. The Ames High student section is more creative and fun to watch then Cyclones Alley. Not even close. They add alot to a somewhat boring game. Something our kids don't do.

Not only would the basketball team beat us, but their student section would seem better.

Ames High players, especially McDermott and Kohler, do not like to bang inside. If they used their height advantage like they should, there's no way these chubby kids from SE Polk should be within 25, no matter how much they slow it down.

I noticed that too.. Ames post players played smaller then what they are. I can understand with Doug and Barnes, but not the other kid. Doug can actually play a wing were he will be a lot in college.

I said it in the other thread, but SEP's inside defense was excellent, held Ames to only 1 offensive board and 2 second chance points, they played great. In every other game I've seen this year Doug and Kohler have been inside making plays much more than they did in this game, Doug especially is almost always inside in space getting boards and easy buckets.

Not trying to take anything away from Barnes at all. Barnes seemed to try to take the game over, especially in the first half and went flying down the lane too may times creating alot of mid are collisions.

Doug let the game come to him. Didn't force anything. Took the open shot when he had it. Had some range and inside moves. He had alot of flow with his game.

Two completey different styles.... First time this year seeing Doug, but does he have that take over a game mentality like Barnes when needed???

    Re: General Observation From State

Doug just doesn't have the athletic gifts that someone like Barnes has, but he has the ability, and obviously the shot, and he seems incredibly smart when it comes to basketball. Not just from watching the tournament games but over the course of the year. We really only got to see part of his game tonight because I think SEP made a conscious attempt to not allow points in the paint, and it worked, and Doug knew that.

I'd agree that the Ames student section ewas great. I don't think you typically see the state champ win the sportsmanship award.
    Although...
The exchange between the student sections after a SEP travel call was great... AHS: "where you going???" SEP: "to your mom's house!" AHS: without missing a beat starts in with "scoreboard".
Making a black A in the sea of orange, could CA pull that off???
The countdown to the 2nd half was great too.

That was hilarious. You could see Barnes go up after the steal and just think OH ****!

You noticed that too..... I saw that and pointed it out to the wife. She couldn't believe it.

Then he got that MONSTER dunk at the buzzer. A lot of players would have quit on that play.

I thought he was seriously going to pull the trigger on that half court shot. Imagine the suprise seeing you still had 4 seconds left. Great dunk to finish the half though....

Yeah it turned out to be a really cool finish, but when he went up for the shot I was thinking it was going to be ugly.

Seeing how classless he was at the end of the game.... I wished he would of thrown that up and missed by a mile. Would of been somewhat fitting.

Still the first half of watching him play was fun. After half he had it on cruise control.

Well... With who we have left playing... It would be a good game... No Brackins or no Ham or Gilstrap...

I would sign up for the game....

Good thing I forgot the little pirate dude... Too many people on edge right now. A hair of sarcasm gets a reaction like someone was having sex in church.
