    Jordan Railey

Just thought I would update everybody on Jordan Railey.......since there is some discussion of him in various threads.

Beaverton, the team Jordan played for has ended it's season. They play in the Metro conference/division of class 6A. Class 6A consists of the 45 largest schools in Oregon, all with a minimum of 2500 students. The Metro is one of 7 conferences.

Beaverton finished 14-13 this year, 6-9 in conference. Jordan played in 21 of the 27 games. He missed a couple with injuries, and I know he missed a couple because of the flu. Beaverton won the first game in the playoffs, and lost their second. Jordan scored 8 and 13 points in those 2 games.

Jordan did pretty well statistically for the year. Here are some of his totals in various categories. The number in parentheses is his ranking in Class 6A.

    Scoring 13.9 pts./game (10th)
    Rebound 7.7/game (6th)
    Free Throws Made (9th)
    Blocked Shots 4.6/game (1st)

As I said in other threads, I have seen Jordan play in person twice. He is a very good defensive player, and an adequate re-bounder. His offensive skills need to be developed. He is a back-to-the-basket player, and has a decent shot from 12-15 feet. He is not inclined to go out beyond 3 point range at all.

He will be a project. I think he is bascially Ham in Ham's first year. He seems to be a pretty smart player though, with a good basketball IQ. He is not skinny, but he is not really strong either. He needs to bulk up and definitely needs to hit the weights. He is like 6-10/11 and probably 215 pounds I would guess. He has potential, but right now he would get bounced around pretty badly in Big 12 play.

Well all that said, we need him. I'll take a project as a big man than no big man at all.

J.Ham was listed at 6'10 and 210 at this point, too. He hit the weights and bulked up before his first game here. Does Railey seem more aggressive than Ham?

Taggart was suppose to be an offensive guy and he showed up as mostly defense for McD.

From the little video I've seen of him, yes.

This confuses me. Taggart never played for Mac.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!

As good as Mac is at developing big men, he should average at least 10 points a game next year.

I would say in terms of defense at least, yes......he is more aggressive than Ham. In terms of rebounding, and working his way into the basket...not so much. That is where he will need the bulk, strength, and some work on his footwork.

Something else to tell you.....this is a very good conference he plays in. Two of the top 3 teams in 6A were from this conference...and I believe at one point or another 5 of the 6 teams in the conference were ranked in the top 20 for 6A, or basically the upper half of schools. So he played against some good size competition.....it's not like he was 6 inches taller than anyone or anything......like can be the case sometimes in high school.

I think he will have a lot of potential. Just needs some help and needs to bulk up. They should start him on a weight program now.......lol.

And was a god AWFUL defender. I've never seen anyone stand there while someone dribbled around him quite like Taggart

I think most have missed the joke he went for here.

    Re: Jordan Railey

Maybe I don't get it. Shucks.

Either way, all we can do is look to the future and have hope like we always do. If "Project Railey" can come in and get stronger and do some nice things for us, great.

Yes, because Cory was 6'10" - 6' 11" and clearly built to play the 5. Also, its not like half of these posters weren't bemoaning the fact that Cory is playing so great for Valpo. So in that sense, I'll take this as a compliment of Railey.

    Cyclone
Iowa State became the Cyclones after they leveled Northwestern in 1895. As the Chicago Tribune (9/29/1895) noted:
    'Struck by a Cyclone
It Comes from Iowa and Devastates Evanston Town'
