ACC reaches out to The NFL Network

Interesting. I'll be the first to admit, that the NFL Network never crossed my mind when it comes to College Football telecasts, but it makes sense. NFL Network could air CFB games from 11am through primetime and still have slots available for it's December Saturday package of NFL games.

ACC reaches out to NFL Network regarding football rights | ProFootballTalk.com

As it turns out, NFL Network's limited foray into college football broadcasting could be growing.
    Considerably.

John Ourand and Michael Smith of SportsBusiness Journal report that the ACC has "reached out" to NFL Network regarding the possible purchase of the conference's broadcasting rights for "a package" of its football games.

The ACC currently is one week into a 60-day exclusive window with ESPN. If a deal isn't completed by the end of April, the ACC will be able to go elsewhere.
Other candidates include FOX and Versus, which is owned by Comcast.

The current combined football and basketball package, per SBJ, pays the ACC $70 million per year. The ACC reportedly has aimed for $120 million annually for its new deal.
    (Good luck with all that.)

It's unknown whether NFLN has an interest in expanding its coverage of live college football games, but it stands to reason that more cable providers (including Time Warner) would be inclined to add the league-owned operation to its lineup if the slate of live broadcasts were to grow.

NFLN recently struck a deal to televise games of the reconstituted Arena Football League, which will resume play soon.

I am all for more exposure of college football! There isn't enough high-quality tv on anyway...might as well have more options to watch another game or two!

Nice... more football on TV is always a good thing!

Wish the Big 12 would do something like this

Now that we are out of the bball tourney, we need some more football. I cannot get too excited about ARod and the Yankees.

Yea, I'd love to have a bunch of ISU games on that channel that all of the mediacom subscribers in the state can't get.

The only thing that sucks about this is that the Big 12 didn't do it first.

But pretty much every sports bar in the State does. There's still a way to find the game on, as long as it IS on.

True enough, but it's not like heading out to the bar is an option for everybody though. Better than what we have, I'll give you that.

True, but most sports bars double as restaurants, so for people who are under 21 or don't drink, it's still probably an option. My point is that once you actually get it on the airwaves, there's a way to watch it. We need to get on the airwaves, period.

Funny that I believe the Big 12 TV contract with FSN is up at the same time that the ACC contract is up with ESPN, yet the Big 12 is doing nothing more than lip service to addressing the TV issues.

Re: ACC reaches out to The NFL Network

I sincerely hope that the Big 12 would set their sights higher than the NFL Network. For example, The whole set of NBC/Universal channels have far more exposure on the cable networks, and are there for the taking, so to speak...

Just the fact that at least 4 Barnstormer games will be on The NFL Network should serve as motiviation for Mediacom to get a deal worked out for the channel.

    I think there's 5, actually. 4 home, 1 road.

Has NBC given any indication that they're interested in pursuing college football outside of Notre Dame? I mean, I get what you're saying, but I'm just wondering what realistically exists as a "better" football tv deal. ESPN has a primary commitment to the SEC, so I don't see us being able to negotiate a favorable arrangment with them. CBS shows games on Saturdays, but I don't they have a cable partner that would allow the mid to low-tier schools in the conference to get on tv consistently.
