Barnstormers General Manager John Pettit said the April 24 game will remain on a Saturday evening, but the kick-off time will be moved back an hour to 8:05 p.m. CST to accommodate the national television schedule.

"We are excited to about the opportunity to showcase Barnstormers football, our loyal fans, and Iowa to a national audience four times this season," said Pettit, noting that the Barnstormers other home games televised on the NFL Network include April 2 (Chicago), May 21 (Arizona), and July 16 (Spokane). Kick-off of those three Friday games will be 7:05 p.m CST. The Barnstormers April 30 road contest at Orlando will also be broadcast live on the NFL Network.

Pettit said single tickets to all eight home games are now on sale and can be reserved by calling (515) 633-2255 or visiting www.theiowabarnstormers.com.

I bet one reason why NFL network is televising these Barnstormer games is in hope of Mediacom eventually picking up NFL Network

Hummm….it seems unlikely they'd mico manage/analyze to that degree. Even if they did, I can't honestly think that the lack of Barnstormer FB on TV is going to cause much rumbling for people to switch from cable. I enjoy the Barnstormers and have had season tix each year (since they re-started) but they don't carry that kind of punch when you're dealing with TV audience size.

The reason the Barnstormers are getting selected IMO is due to long history (makes for good storylines for the color guy) and good fan support. The NFL Network wants to legitimize their telecasts of this sport and thus they don't want to be showing games with huge sections of empty seats visible on TV. By showing games held in Des Moines, that will not be a problem.

Has anything been announced about whether these games will be in HD?

I do agree, but I also think whenever Iowa gets something that is "top tier" such as AFL, people come out of the woodwork to support it. The Barnstormers will definitely be the top billing in town during spring and early summer and should command a decent TV audience. (beter than what it would in bigger markets imo) Whereas a team in Chicago/Milwaukee/Dallas/etc. has more of a niche and less overall popularity.

The history of the team and Warner definitely plays a part too. I just hope they field a solid team, otherwise that would be a major bummer.

I know I will be there in Milwaukee on April 16th, maybe the only Barnstormer fan in the house!

    Exactly.

It's kind of funny, last weekend I was visiting my cousin in Tulsa, and we were at a pre-party before heading to some bars. I was talking to a guy, and when he found out I was from Des Moines, he asked if I was a Barnstormers fan. I was a bit surprised, as I've never been asked this question in my life, but responded "yeah! I don't have season tickets but I make most of the home games." It turns out the guy is one of the main bloggers for the Tulsa Talons, and he just gushed about the fan support for the Barnstormers, and how because of Warner, and the history, and the packed houses in Des Moines, that it's really the envy of the rest of Arena Football, especially the teams coming up from AF2 who draw about half of what we do. He said "you guys are like the Packers of Arena Football", which I found funny because I've used that exact analogy on this board.

Anyways, I thought it was really interesting to get an outsider opinion on the subject, but it pretty much confirms why so many of the Des Moines games are getting televised.
