    Ron "Sugar Bear" McFarland. 1977

1st Team All-Big 8, despite blowing out his knee with 4 games remaining on the schedule. You can't top this.

3 of the 4 had and have decent or good pro careers and the other would have if he had some common sense to match his ability. Don't you know you get that pro contract before you lose your mind????

    I agree with the above.

I might sub Big Play Curvey in for Reed just because I can still vividly picture Curvey watching himself on the scoreboard as he ran in for a touchdown against Colorado. Awesome play in an awesome game.

That game was one of the greatest atmosphere's i've been to at Jack, the tornado was the greatest part. That place was rocking, i think when Curvey did the scoop and score the upper deck was vibrating! Oh that was great.

    Re: All time best D-Line

    Merv Krakau
    Ron McFarland
    James Reed
    Reggie Hayward

The best combination of guys who are good fits for all 4 DL positions to stop the run and rush the passer.

Krakau and Hayward are givens - the two best ever DE's at ISU who also had solid NFL careers.

McFarland was probably the most talented NT to ever play at ISU - only the knee injury kept him from having a long pro career.

There are some other good candidates for the DT position, but probably none who could match Reed's combination of quickness, strength, and speed. He was a play maker who caused all kinds of problems for the opposing OL's.

    Re: All time best D-Line

I need a confirmation on this; I think Iowa State's all-time sack leader deserves some consideration:

    Who is it you ask?

    Reggie Hayward? Nope.
    Jason Berryman? Woulda coulda shoulda
    Jordan Carstens? No.

I'm pretty sure it's Shawn Moorehead. Could someone please provide some stats? I can't find any online.
