Beasley probably still going to K-State

This is from thebiglead.com, where his mother says he's still going to K-State in one article, then in an SI article he says he's "70 Percent" and he has a list of schools he'd consider if he backed out of K-State. We'll see.

Re: Beasley probably still going to K-State

KSU made some desparation hires in Frank Martin and Dalonte Hill (assistants last year under Huggins) to try to keep the recruiting class together. It seems like a short sighted thing to do program wise.

I heard on KC sports talk this morning that Frank Martin was a HS coach in Florida who won a state title, only to have it taken away because of some serious rules violations. School officials apparently allowed some of his players used fake addresses that would allow them to enroll and play at his school. Both he and the AD got fired over the deal. Huggy then picked him up as an assistant - probably due to his ability to recruit, and his "slimeball" factor.

    KC Star Article

What happens when Beasley is a one-and-done like some are predicting? This whole thing parallels our hire of WM after Larry's melt down...look how well that turned out. Good luck KSU....but then you're a football school now, remember?

I really don't understand why they did not hire a good coach with the stipulation that they keep Delonte Hill as an assistant. It is Hill's recruiting class. He could have kept Beasley that way also. Now they have some slimeball (how very K-state of them) to run the show.

Re: Beasley probably still going to K-State

The word on the KC sports reports is that that Tim Weiser (KSU AD) had better hope that Frank Martin works out because he is taking some heat from alums for the hiring of Frank Martin. Couple this with the hire of Ron Prince also a relatively unknown assistant coach, the pressure is on. Word is that if they don't perform well next year, Weiser will be out and that would really put KSU athletics in a tailspin for at least a couple of years since a new AD usually means new coaches within a year or two unless they are performing exceptionally well.

I give Frank Martin two years tops.

Re: Beasley probably still going to K-State

Once upon a time, Bob Bowlsby promised a recruit, Glen Worley, that his favorite coach, Rich Walker, would be retained no matter who the next coach was. That ended up with Iowa having to "settle" for Alford, who then proceded to give his father a job, etc. Anybody remember how that turned out?

In the KC star on Friday it said that Wieser said that they will not release Beasley from in scholarship if he asks for it.

They are between a rock and a hard place with that approach. If they keep him hostage by not releasing him, you have disgruntled current players in addition to scaring off future recruits. If they release him, it could start a chain reaction like GMAC had to deal with last year. He did fine because he was able to develop the guys who he had to work with while building for the future. If Martin and Hill are all about connections, they could be hurting if the connections don't come through.

The best approach for all involved would be to release him and hope that he likes the school enough to recommit. If he doesn't, you probably don't want him there anyway.

The article in star I saw said they will not release until meets with new coaching staff. If they have since changed their tune and said under no circumstances will they release I have not seen it.

K-State can prevent Beasley from jumping to another D1 school immediately, but Beasley could just go to a JUCO. Then about this time next spring he can make the jump to the NBA or pick another D1 school.

Heck, I'm not sure why he's at Prep school now(is he a senior or 5th year players)- but he could just hang there another year if he's a 4th year senior to "improve" his grades if he's in not hurry to jump to the NBA.
