    Will ISU Blow-out weaker opponents?

With Iowa States history of sitting on a lead against weak opponents, I wonder if we will see a change in philosophy with Coach Chizik. We seemed to make poor teams look good in the second half by getting SOOO conservative. We even managed to keep Iowa in the game last year by sitting on a lead in the first half. Any indications Coach C will blow peoples socks off if we can? Sure would be nice to see a 50-10 against a patsy. Anyone else share my frustrations?

Strictly based on last year, we only led Toledo by 6 at the half, UNLV by 10 and UNI was beating the tar out of us. So it wasn't like we had big leads and then coasted.

I had a point to make, but I'm feeling ill and need to run to the bathroom...

Good point. Guess I just had the feeling we were playing with one hand tied behind our backs and never really came out for the kill. Seeing so many 1 yard runs and balls thrown out of bounds hipnotized me.

Re: Will ISU Blow-out weaker opponents?

We obviously weren't in a position to "blow out" any of the opponents we played last season. However, our team missed a few golden opportunities to put the kill shot on the opponent. UNLV and Mizzou for sure, and Iowa as well. A good defensive stand before halftime at Iowa may have won the game, save for the obvious conservative playcalling that surely would have come in the second half, and couple that stand with another scoring drive before half and ISU would have been in control of that game.

2006 didn't provide opportunities for blowouts, but 2005 sure did. KU and Mizzou were fine examples of this. However, that 2005 team was able to really put the hammer down on a few teams, such as A&M, KSU and OSU, but I thought those were just horribly incompetent teams at the time.

Crap, I'm rambling. Back to the point, I sure hope that our team gets that killer instinct and isn't afraid of success.

Man, I hope so. There is nothing I would love more than to thrash the first team we play this year during that Thursday night game. Until the next week of course....

This has been something that has bugged the crap out of me as a Clone fan the last few years. It has just felt like you could never take a game for granted, even against a IAA team. As a big 12 bowl contender, this should not be the case.

Here is to hoping Chizik shows no mercy to those who do not belong on the field. I love a competitive game as much as the next person, but let's save those until October.

Maybe not this year. Our weakest opponents will be faced while the guys are still trying to put the new schemes on the field.

Hell, had we actually tried to put a drive together with 1:30 left in the half in that game, and the way we moved the ball in parts of the first half, it might have been one of those momentum-suckers that could have been a final nail in the coffin early. But no, we put our knees to the ground, and Iowa went to the locker room with mo' and it was over after that...

Re: Will ISU Blow-out weaker opponents?

I have a feeling GC will be the kind of coach that won't let his team "quit" until the final whistle has blown. I believe he'll want to send a message that ISU is a team to be reckoned with. On the flip side of that, I doubt he'll be the Spurrier-type that runs up the score (if that opportunity ever presents itself) to humiliate the opponent...
