    Recruits?

I just joined cyclone fanatic and I have to say it is awesome. I missed out on most of the talk about recruits and I would like to know more about them. Who do you think is our best new recruit this year?

    Re: Recruits?

Shontrelle Johnson is our best recruit by a mile. The rest of the class has some guys that hopefully develop into talented players, but for most of them, ISU was their best offer and often only BCS offer.

    Re: Recruits?

I think Shontrelle Johnson and Adrian Bennett. Floyd Mattison has a huge amount of raw athleticism. We have heard he will get here but we are not sure he will be. He could have to go to a JUCO and then all bets are off. Rony Nelson apparently is taking an online class through his old JUCO and last I knew he was still in Ames and should be here this summer. He could become the biggest impact player on next years defense.

    Re: Recruits?

Basically, we haven't gotten this many three-star recruits for a long time. Right now, we just have to hope that they all show up. People wanted more depth on the defensive line, but the offensive line gained a lot of solid prospects.

Barnet has the potential to be a solid QB and we have some decent WR and DB recruits.

This is not true. The majority of our guys had BCS offers. Now, they weren't huge schools but there were offers out there.

Basically this class has a lot of raw talent. It needs to be developed. We have to face the fact that we are in the position right now that we need to get talent and mold it. We will not get a bunch of polished football players at this point. We could have used some more help on the Dline, however there didn't seem to be a bunch of guys out there who could help us immediately. I look for us to hit that hard this coming year.

Yes, next to Shontrelle he probably had the most BCS big time offers. Nebraska and Mississippi for sure. He should be a return/ slot specialist. He is speedy and a playmaker.

    Re: Recruits?

I agree with yaman. I believe about 1/2 had BCS offers and several others had offers from some top notch non-BCS schools like Utah and Fresno State that consistantly put players into the NFL. The biggest disappontment was losing Hubert to Texas Tech on signing day and missing on a couple d-linemen we were in the running for until the final day. Overall a very solid class for year 2 of the HCPR era.

    Re: Recruits?

I think I could name 10 different players who I think has a chance to THE stud. So many solid prospects with multiple offers and great highlight videos.

    In no particular order:
Shontrelle Johnson - definitely had the best offers (Florida)
    Floyd Mattison
    Adrian Bennett
    Albert Gary
    Jeremiah George
Jarvis West - most impressive highlight video (speed, speed, speed)
    The entire OL commits

I am disappointed in the DL recruiting, but I know there are few to chose from. Hopefully we can develop the ones we got.

    Re: Recruits?

One thing that I remember reading is that Herman really liked that way that Barnett throws. He is very accurate and get's the ball out of his hand very quickly. Sounds like the type of guy that can be very successful in Herman's system if he can make the correct decisions.

    Re: Recruits?

And on a side note...If I remember what Coach Rhoads said about these recruits something about that they are the ones WE (The coaches) wanted here so that makes them five star recruits in their eyes. Obviously not quoted word for word but something on that order.

Hell, I'd run through a wall for Coach Rhoads! Now maybe this coaching staff can mold them into something special and they'll want to do the same.

Yeah, I think CPR said something about most of the guys we got were our first choice, which is evident from all of the early offers out there. In many cases we weren't forced to go after fall-back options.

The biggest thing about this incoming class is an increase in speed and athleticism across the board. Even a lot of our O-Line recruits look like good athletes.

    Re: Recruits?

I really like Albert Gary's video. Tons of yards after contact. Seems like ARob is the only guy we had who was tough to bring down.
