Brackins and Gilstrap Honored by the Big 12

IRVING, Texas—A pair of Iowa State men’s basketball players were honored today by the Big 12 Conference in its annual coaches postseason awards. Junior forward Craig Brackins was named All-Big 12 Second Team and senior forward Marquis Gilstrap earned honorable mention honors.

Brackins, who was a first team selection last year, led ISU in scoring (16.5 ppg.) and averaged 8.6 rebounds, ranking in the top-10 in the league in both categories. The Palmdale, Calif., native became just the sixth player in school history to record 1,500 points and 700 rebounds in a career earlier this season. He recorded 13 double-doubles on the year to rank fourth in the Big 12 and his 31 career doubles ties for fifth all-time in school history.

Gilstrap, a native of Covington, Ga., was outstanding in his first season with the Cyclones. Gilstrap averaged 14.8 points and led the Cyclones in rebounding at 9.4 rpg, the fourth-best total in the conference. In league games only, Gilstrap led the Big 12 in rebounding (10.3 rpg) and was the only player in the conference to average a double-double (15.3 ppg/10.3 rpg). He ended the year earning Big 12 Rookie of the Week honors five times.

MG got snubbed on the all rookie team. If it was just all freshman I would understand but Udoh made the team so it was new comers. MG deserved it over Bradley from UT.

MG also made rookie of the week again

Media vote for the weekly honors. Head coaches vote on the year-end honors. Wouldn't be the first time coaches and sports writers didn't see eye-to-eye.
