    Patrick Ewing effect

Here is my contribution/ hope about next year:

Notice tonight - all the guy who were "inept," and couldn't score, couldn't finish, etc. finished it in overtime. No CB - and no, Craig shouldn't stay. He should get his due pay. Gilstrap? likely won't get his extra year of eligibility. No big deal. It appears as though he could get drafted too. I wish both Craig and Marquis luck from here on. The blue collar did it for us tonight. DG finished. Scotty C. made everthing. They couldn't rely on Craig. That was the difference - it had to be.

I really think (hope) that this team suffers because it is all too well known who is expected to score and win games for us. Without them, who is to step up?... No easy answer - which is exactly why next year may be better. Are these other guys capable, Big XII caliber players? tonight may have shown yes. But it took CB (& Dendy) fouling out for the guards (Garrett & Christopherson) to understand they would have to make a greater contribution.

I honestly don't know if McDermott deserves another year, but regardless, it looks like he is getting one. I am interested to see how the players react to not having an understood "star" - which may actually help things...

Thoughts? Maybe I am drinking Kool-aid, but I am trying to see the silver lining...

Good post. I loved the way DG responded in overtime. He knew it was go time and he went. Scotty hit some big ones. I am looking forward to a team that has no single star. I feel like Mac is probably better that way. It will be interesting to say the least.

I don't know how losing two "star" players in Gilstrap and Brackins could be a good thing.

Would we have won without Craig Brackins today?

The answer is, obviously, no. Especially given our short bench and foul trouble.

Thats debatable. We won a 5 minute game without him and earlier we opened up a lead with him on the bench. This team does not begin and end with him. They showed they can compete without him tonight. He is the best player on our team but he is not the only person on the team that can do something.

If I could change one little thing from this season I would like to have Scotty healthy all season.

This team is not better without Craig. Period. Anyone who tries to say otherwise is just blatantly wrong.

Just like how..Notre Dame had been doing well without Harangody. People were saying they were better without him. Hell no they weren't. They figured out a way to play together without him. We're definitely worse without Craig.

    Re: Patrick Ewing effect

The way these kids stepped up tonight, it could be a really positive sign for the future. Hard to remember that Scotty is a sophomore. He could be really good by his senior year, and Hamilton could be great. Colvin has huge potential as well, and Diante could assume a more offensive role too. He certainly has the ability to break down the defense and get to the rack when he wants to. Dendy has some potential for next year in his own right. If the kids coming in next year can accelerate their learning curve and make serious contributions, it could be fun to watch. I certainly will go into next year with some hope for good things. Brackins and Gilstrap will be missed though.
