    Accounting internships

Does anyone have info on Accounting internships (past experience, current, or connections)

I am currently an Accounting Junior and really just want to be spending my non school time learning the ropes while making a little money at the same time.

It's relatively late in the game now. Have you checked with Business Career Services or looked to see what is posted on ISU CMS?

I would head to the career fair, internships are tough to come by anymore.

    Re: Accounting internships

I agree with mwitt and UNIGuy4Cy. The tax season / busy season is almost halfway. If you want to find internships in public accounting firms, usually they started interviewing in early fall / fall career day.
If you want to work in non-public accounting, you need to find an insider as internship is really hard to come by anymore.
Feel free to PM me if you have any questions, I spent 10 years in public accounting before moving to private couple of years ago.

    Re: Accounting internships

Thanks, I think I am going to try for one in the fall as this sounds like the best time and I think I will be better ready for one.

Does anybody know what class are required by most companies before they will even consider you for an internship?

By letting them know what year you are, the recruiters have a general idea of where you are in the curriculum. For recruiting events like that, companies oftentimes send recent hires from Iowa State.

Just focus on the classes you have taken and try to relate how you think they will help you. It always bothered me because one of the most common questions was public/private and tax/audit. How the hell are you supposed to know when you don't take 485 or 497 (I think that's audit, anyway) until your senior year?

Get ahead of the curve. I'm in tax and auditing right now as a junior.

    Re: Accounting internships

The firm I work at (Denman & Company) offers tax internships for Spring semester. They are part time and we work around your class schedule so you don't have to take a semester off. We are on campus in the fall at the "ISU Meet The Firm" event and then do interviews the following week. We prefer that you submit your resume' via the Career Services website.

I spoke with Denman quite a bit this fall and had really good experiences with them.

He is terrible, IMO. Really didn't care for it. It was the hardest class and hardest professor I have had at school here.

Is Dr. Perkins a new guy? If he is, he's freaking awful. I got a 34.6% on the first exam and it was a C because the exam scores were brutal.

I was assuming everyone was talking about Perkins. He was new in the fall. Exam scores for our class averaged around 40%.
