i'm surprised this hasn't been brought up

I just remembered that like 15 years ago there was a stud LB at Ames High. His name was Jim Burrow or something like that. I remember he signed with Nebraska and actually started his sr year. Any of you guys here remember him?

Never heard of him. What I'm surprised about is why you are surprised that nobody has brought this up.

Re: i'm surprised this hasn't been brought up

Jamie Burrow, son of Nebraska QB Jimmy Burrow, he started at MLB for Nebraska for at least one year, but I think more. Was tracking really well for the NFL draft but after Nebraska was slaughtered by Colorado and then Miami his stock plummeted. I think he ended up as a FA signing and nothing much happened for him.

He was a large kid. Played against him for four years. Really worked hard. I wish I had his genetics so I could have played at that level too. Of course he did start his senior year for a reason. They had nobody else. Nebraska was so far removed from the Blackshirt days by then. Talent took a big drop.

yeah true. I went to Dowling and we played them my jr and sr year in HS. He was already 220 or 230 in HS so that probably attracted a lot of DI interest. That, and his family connections with UNL. As for you said that Nebraska had nobody else, that's not true. His senior year they were similar to how Iowa did this year (2 loss BCS team). It was in the three years after Crouch that the talent started to drop off.

Re: i'm surprised this hasn't been brought up

His dad was the dbacks coach for Iowa State under Walden.

I coached him in basketball when he was in 4th or 5th grade. He was an absolute witch with the basketball, but tiny. He would go behind the back, cross people over.

It was clear at a very early age that he was a phenomenal athlete.

He was tiny, though. I'm surprised he got that big.

Who did they beat in the Big XII Championship that year to qualify?

Trick question, they did not participate. CU got mildly screwed but Oregon and Joey Harrington got massively screwed on that one.

It's in West Des Moines. What is surprising about all of this? Please, someone explain this thread.
