Re: College Football on 3D TV?

this is probably why none/very few of our basketball and football games are in HD... the big12/CTN knew they could skip investing in HD cameras and wait for the 3-d cameras to come out...

    it all makes sense now

Re: College Football on 3D TV?

I don't think that tv stations are skipping HD to wait for 3D. Only 30% of US homes have HD service now and it has been around for 7- 12 years depending on when it was introduced vs when major cable companies began offering it. There are still plenty of channels that need to move to HD and will do so in the next year or so instead of waiting for 3D, which is a long ways out from being in 30% of people's houses, around 2022.

3-D is a mess. Nobody knows how it'll work. So many "standards". Glasses for one type of TV won't work with another type, and the glasses are EXPENSIVE. Try $200 a pair, or more. That's upwards of $800 for a family of 4, and that doesn't include the TV! Then what do you do if your friends want to come over?

So many broadcasters want to jump into this thing without looking, and it is a mess. It'll take 10 years or more to sort all of this out.

There will be TVs where there will be no need for glasses as well, I don't think it will take as long as you think but it will take a few years to grow and refine.

Re: College Football on 3D TV?

Is this whole 3-d tv thing just another attempt to get us to go out and replace our tvs, now that we're getting to the point where the differences in new tvs are pretty negligible (14,000,000,000 contrast ratio, 240 hz) so there isnt as much incentive to buy new?

Re: College Football on 3D TV?

3-D is cool, but hard on my eyes. Its a fun and cool idea for 2 hours at a movie, but after that, I could care less. Normal HD is much more impressive than 3-D IMO.
