And you wonder why people are afraid to fly. What's next, junior assisting with a bypass procedure?

Nice find. Good to know there is a record for hernia operations in 24 hours.

Re: Take your kid to work, in air traffic control?

It certainly sounds bad at first glance, but just how much danger was there from having a child say a few things over the radio? I would bet there was someone there telling him exactly what to say, and he just relayed the message. If the child had said something incorrect, then someone almost certainly would have been right there to correct it. I suspect they are making a much bigger deal out of this than is warranted.

Andy Borowitz Kids should not be at airports directing air traffic. They should be at home pretending to be in balloons.

Re: Take your kid to work, in air traffic control?

Seriously this is rediculous. 20 years ago this wouldn't have been a news story. Doubt there would have been an investigation.

Sounds like the kid was sitting on Daddy's knee with Daddy telling him what to do, kinda how my dad used to let us drive the car around the cul-de-sac and park it in the driveway while sitting on his lap, with him controlling the gas and brakes.

Re: Take your kid to work, in air traffic control?

Yeah, hard to believe that he wasn't fed all the correct information and apparently did a good job of doing that. The pilots seemed to have understood and nothing happened.

However, I'm thinking it probably isn't a good idea to bring your kid to a somewhat hectic air traffic control tower when you're responsible for bringing in planes safely and having your kid there could distract you. Then again, you've probably got plenty of distractions up there from other co-workers as well.

I'm thinking no harm no foul in this case, but bringing kids to the ATC should probably be a no-no, especially at a place like JFK.
