    Spring Game Countdown...

One week, one day and a little less than 5 hours away! Yo Jeremy, methinks we need a countdown on the header for the spring game.

So, what things are each of you going to be watching closely? Specifically, what's the biggest thing you are going to look for?

Forecast doesn't look great - 50's and a chance of rain so far. Hopefully that will change to 60's and sunny!

    Re: Spring Game Countdown...

I'm pumped about this year's spring game!! I haven't felt this much excitement about a spring game since the one right before Seneca was a senior!

I am really anxious to see how the OL is developing!
Secondly, I have heard great things about Austen & am excited to compare his performance with that of Meyer.

Go to the game, Fanatics - support the Clones and the new staff!!!

Utah Utes, Illinois Illini. The University of Pennsylvania thought about following this pattern by calling themselves the Pennsylvania Pencils. However, they were afraid their students would start chanting "We're No. 2"

    Re: Spring Game Countdown...

The game itself I'm not too pumped up about because what we see now compared this fall won't even be close. I'm more pumped up for a chance to tailgate again.

Is Chizik even going to be on the sidelines? In the past Mac would be in the radio booth while the assistants ran the game.

From Chizik's comments it may not be much of a "game" as it has been in the past. He mentioned it might be run more like an open practice.

Praying for sun and warmth here as well. Forecast looks sh*tty right now as mentioned above.

I've heard the same. I think it will be similar to what I saw last weekend. Situations (3rd and 8, 1st and 10 from your own 1 yard line, etc).

Still a scrimmage type of environment, yet very controlled.

    Re: Spring Game Countdown...

This crappy weather is starting to get to me. I have to go home this weekend and while there help fix some fence that is not in a fun and easy spot to work in. I hear on the radio this morning we are going to have record lows tonight plus a high of 35 tomorrow. :(

It better start clearing and warming up soon. Softball season starts April 15th and the good bats don't get used in weather under 60 degrees because they are more likely to dent. Plus we've been trying for the past 2 weeks now to get out and get some practice in but that hasn't been possible with the rain and cold.

I will be watching for Meyer being able to find the open receiver. Hopefully he can look at his second or third option and find someone who is open.

I wish the spring game was more like a game. Maybe someday down the road our spring game will be more like the other big schools. An actual game type atmosphere with 20,000 people in the stands. Be able to charge $5 a person. $100,000 more for the athletic dept.

    Re: Spring Game Countdown...

Minnesota ran theirs like a game this past weekend and had four injuries they didn't need. Add to that their off the field woes and they have problems. I'm looking forward to our event, but I trust Chiziks judgment on how to best handle it. We're already pretty thin at most positions. No major injuries and some fun would be a good day.

Well at least we'll be having some football-like weather this weekend. Forecast is 50 with 30% of showers.

    Re: Spring Game Countdown...

Here are the things that I'll be concentrating on:

How much ice do I need to keep my beer cold?

Am I first in line waiting for the parking lots to open?

Can I make a good playlist for the whole tailgating session?

Are there any leaks in the tent?

As far as the scrimmage itself, I never get much out of it. I've been going for a long time and never get a good feel on how the team is going to do. Last year I thought they looked bad and it turned out to be true but other years it was just the opposite.

    Re: Spring Game Countdown...

I'm not liking the weather for this weekend. The high on weather.com is saying 36 now, WHO and KCCI are 46 and 48 so I don't know who to believe plus a good chance of rain or snow. The temperature is going to play a big factor if I go through with plans or not possibly. My tailgate tent is up stored in RV which is about an hour 45 minutes from home then another hour or so back to Ames from there so it may be one of those all or nothing situations as I'm not going to all that hassle if only a couple of us wind up going. I have to compete with the Kenny Chesney concert Friday night too so I already have some party poopers that are debating about going now too.

    Re: Spring Game Countdown...

    What time is everyone going?

I think my group is planning on leaving DM at 9 which will give us at least 3 hours of tailgating before the "game".

I agree dmclone, I just go to get a small ISU football/tailgating fix before the long summer ahead. I usually don't get much out of it except for the enjoyment of seeing our guys on the field.

I forget how parking is during the spring game. I normally park in A3. Is that area going to be open?
