    Fiber to Home

Recently had fiber wired directly to home to replace phone and DSL services. They will be coming later in the week to wire the home and turn on service.

Any suggestions as to how to utilize the fiber? Unless requested, they will only be wiring to the main computer location. Should I see about getting other parts of the home wired or just rely on a wireless router? Any input appreciated.

I assume they'll only make one run for you for free. If its not too much and you really want another wired connection in another part of the house, have them do it. You won't regret it. Definitely put thought in how you imagining using everything so you can plan.

    Re: Fiber to Home

I dunno I don't own a home yet but from what I've read it's probably cheaper to have everything wired now, as opposed to having them come back at a later date...

It gives you more flexibility in the future, and may improve the retail value of you home.

Wether thats worth it to you though and if you can afford it or not, thats a whole other story.

Probably is some value to having more than just the one spot wired though if you have the option

Make sure you have a high flush capacity toilet.

    Re: Fiber to Home

I assume that they will stop the fiber in your utility room and run CAT5e or CAT6 cable to your computer. In the past, I've seen where they have one box that brings the fiber in and sends out coax, internet, and phone to your home. If this is the case, and you have the ability then see if they'll replace all of your telephone line with CAT6. You can use just one set of the twisted pairs for your telephone and keep it in the wall for any future network jacks that you might want to add in. In addition to your computer, make sure that you have a good connection to any home theater room that you have or may have in the future.

Thanks for the information. I believe the scenario you have drawn is accurate for this situation. I will check with them prior to the install to check.

    Re: Fiber to Home

Just out of curiosity, where do you live that you got fiber to your house?

    And who is the provider?
