2010 Iowa Girls' State BB Tournament

I'll put this in WBB since most discussion will probably center around future Cyclone Hallie Christofferson and other players ISU is recruiting (Greenfield, Wright, etc).

That's about two good games worth of stats, not one!

Re: 2010 Iowa Girls' State BB Tournament

Exira 63, Prince of Peace 57 (per ighsau.org)

Exira's Hallie Christofferson put together a game to remember in the 2010 state tournament opener.
Christofferson, a 6-foot-3 senior, just missed a triple double in leading second-ranked Exira past Clinton Prince of Peace 63-57 in Class 1A play on Monday.
An Iowa State recruit, Christofferson scored 32 points, grabbed 20 rebounds and blocked eight shots in one of the top individual performances in recent years.
She showed a variety of moves around the basket and a soft touch while hitting 12 of 17 shots, including a 3-pointer. Christofferson also made four steals, handed out a couple of assists and often brought the ball up the floor against Prince of Peace's full-court pressure.
Her 20 rebounds are the fourth-highest total in a state tournament game.
Exira, now 24-0, dominated its competition during the season, winning by an average of 33 points a game. The scrappy unranked Irish battled the Vikettes to the end, however, even after falling behind by 18 points in the third quarter.
Prince of Peace gave Exira problems with its quick hands and hustle on defense. But the Vikettes overcame their 28 turnovers by shooting 62.5 percent and got key baskets down the stretch from Christofferson and Courtney Peppers to stay in control.
The six-point margin was the closest of the season for Exira, which advances to a semifinal game at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Ann Walker added 14 points and 11 assists for Exira, while Maddy Peppers scored 12 points.
Katie Isenhour led Prince of Peace with 15 points and Brittany Horst scored 14. Ariana Aquilani added 10 points and five steals for the Irish, who finish 17-8.

Re: 2010 Iowa Girls' State BB Tournament

I went to the Exira game this morning and Christopherson (sp?) was very impressive. Her post moves on the block are text book, though she seems to be a finesse player- not a banger at all. Most impressive to me was her ball handling. The ball got caught on her hip and leg few times early in the game when she was bringing the ball up the court against pressure, but by the end the game that was all cleared up. She has a good enough handle to play the wing if she works at it.

    "Vikettes overcame their 28 turnovers"

I like girl's HS basketball - I really do; but if the winning team had 28 turnovers, that game must have been terrible to watch...

I second that. You are Ames via Marion, and I'm the opposite direction (with a few stops in-between). I've been here a couple years now and have enjoyed watching the L-M GBB team. I was at the state semifinal last season and felt really weird rooting for L-M over Ames (I'm an AHS grad).

I'll be at the 4A semifinals and finals if Linn-Mar makes it that far. We'll be sure to take binoculars and a camera.

Re: 2010 Iowa Girls' State BB Tournament

The Register lists Maddie Oliver — Roland-Story 6-2 junior center, as one of the five players to watch. They do not list Hallie Christofferson. Is this a meaningful list? Is Oliver D-1 potential?

Hallie was mentioned on p. 2 of the Sports section in the Metro edition of the paper under a column headed "Class-by-Class Outlook." The article calls her one of the state's top players and notes that she is our recruit.

They didn't list Greenfield as one to watch either. I'm not sure what their criteria were, but it's obviously not meant to be a list of the 5 best players.

1-A girls basketball: Exira tops Clinton Prince of Peace | desmoinesregister.com | The Des Moines Register

Hallie Christofferson kept the team statisticians busy Monday. She had 32 points, 20 rebounds and eight blocked shots.

The rebound total is the fifth largest single-game tally in a five-player tournament game. The blocks total is tied for eighth best and the scoring total tied her for 17th best.
