Coach is good X & O Team has no Basketball IQ

Over and over again I hear from the self proclaimed ISU basketball experts that they consider Gmac to be an excellent X/O coach. These same experts go on to state that the players are lacking Basketball IQ ( what ever that is).

My question is - considering the above to be true - Why is it, as the season progresses, the team shows no IQ improvement. You would think a coach who has excellent X/O skills would be able to impart/teach/coach some of this X/O basketball IQ upon the players.

At the same time the coach who is considered by many experts to have great X/O skill goes for the 2 points and then turns around and puts the ball/game in the hands of a guard (who has shown time and time again that he can't make the play) TO MAKE THE PLAY. Some great X/O right there. LOL

    I don't get it.

The coach has great X/O skill but when in game situations it does not show.
The coach has great X/O skill but the players have very low basketball IQ.

I this point I really don't care about a coach that is proclaimed to have high X/O.

    I want a coach WHO CAN COACH...................gasp.

I agree. A good coach/teacher can make the most naive of people understand what they're talking about. I'm sure we've all had teachers/coaches like that who are so good, they make the most complex things seem simple.

My mom always tells me about when she and my dad got married, he was getting his phd. My mom isn't scientific in the least bit, my dad was going for one in chemistry with some physics type stuff in there. She knows nothing about that stuff, but said my dad made her understand it somehow.

To me, that's what a good teacher is. One of those "oh wow, huh...i get it, that's easy" moments.

Doesn't really matter, we're stuck with him for now.

100% sure I do know that he's the coach for 3 more games this year.

Maybe, maybe not. My point is I would like for the experts to explain to me why a coach who they consider to have very high X/O skills has a team with very low IQ coupled by the fact that during game situations play calling as well as execution seems to be lacking. Or is it just the simple case that the coach v=can't impart this knowlwdge upon the team. Or is the team too stupid to grasp the concepts. Curious.

Oh, i thought you meant for NEXT year. Yes, he's the coach for at least three more games this year, but as far as next year...I could see him coming back, but I sure as hell am not giving any money to our basketball team if he does next year (unless he starts winning Big 12 games if he's brought back).

Well, I'm certainly no expert, so I couldn't tell ya that one. I'm all for some kind of change, but it's not gonna happen right now. So I'll just continue to cheer for the Clones and throw in my 2 cents when the season's over.

Understandable, but I really think he'll be back again. Not that we have to agree with that, but that's what I feel.

So we bring him back and you quit supporiting the program, do you think that is going to help us to afford to get a new coach the next year, if needed? Good call

I don't like seeing my donation garnering so little in the win column, but incase you don't get it. GM's salary is allready on the books. Any money you take off the table is going to be that much longer that we'll have to wait for a change to even be possible. Your thinking is a little backwards.

I've given enough money to a black hole already. I'll support the team in every possible way obviously, except I don't plan on keeping the same contribution I've been giving. I'll give some money, but I'm not going to increase it at all.

Re: Coach is good X & O Team has no Basketball IQ

We do not look like a cohesive team on the floor. We look more unsettled than we have in the past three years. We have no go top leader in crunch time. The IQ court sense is then hidden. We would look like we had the IQ if we could make pressure shots. We cannot.

Looks like Wesley Johnson has IQ. He may be one of top two players this year along with Wall.

UNI looks like they have lots of IQ. Might be their coach.
