    The "non messageboard fans"

I posted this over on CR, but I would like to get as many opinions as possible...

What are the average Cyclone fans that you know saying about the state of the program? Sometimes I think fans like us are "too close" to what's going on, and it's good to hear from that majority of the fanbase that simply attends/watches games and hears about it in the mainstream media.

Off the top of my head, I can think of 11 non-messageboard fans who I would categorize as die hard (never miss a game, very tuned-in) and who I speak with at least weekly. I would group them as follows: 7 are clearly ready for a change. 3 are frustrated yet undecided (last we spoke). The other is bi-polar and impossible to read.

Is this typical? Maybe I associate with a bunch of negative nellies. What's the pulse of the average fan? We know by attendance that people are becoming more and more disinterested, but does it go further?

To be completely honest, all the Cyclone fans I know are right there with Mac and the team right now.

Id say a lot that i know are at least very frustrated, and the only thing making it not a definite 'fire him' with many is his ridiculous contract\buyout.

To the point where the program is a joke. I think most are 100% ready for change but not expecting it. Most are just tired of MBB.

This. Everyone I know is just tired of our men's team and has no idea what to do.

    Re: The "non messageboard fans"

I think a lot of it depends on the age of the fan. I was not a fan growing up and didn't become a fan until I enrolled at ISU in the fall of '99. So I came in with the best ISU team ever. Most of the fans I know who are my age are wanting a change. The older fans I know seem indifferent.

    Re: The "non messageboard fans"

The ones I have talked to are concerned about the program not winning with the talent that is on the team. For the most part they are ready for a change.

BTW a good friend of mine is a HUGE hawk fan. He was pretty disappointed when we hired McD because he thought our program was going to be pretty good. He is now in the camp of, "Please do what you can to keep McD in Ames." He is willing to donate money to ISU to keep McD in Ames. I think this is similar thinking the opposing coaches have in conference.

    Re: The "non messageboard fans"

Most of the cyclones I talk to are big McDermott fans that had huge expectations
when he took over and still want to give him a chance but are starting to question
    their opinion.

Excessive intake of alcohol, we all know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers.
