Re: Texas AD: UT not talking to Big Ten

AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas likes its position in the Big 12 Conference and has not talked with the Big Ten about its expansion plans, athletic director DeLoss Dodds said Wednesday. Dodds spoke with The Associated Press on Wednesday after recent speculation that the Longhorns program could be courted by the Big Ten, which is considering expanding.

Dodds said Texas would be a natural target for any league because of the school's strong academics, athletics and the power to draw a large television audience. But Texas and the Big 12 are good for each other, Dodds said, adding "It's working. I like it."
What a shocker! Texas enjoys being the Big XII's Lord and Master? Really?

Re: Texas AD: UT not talking to Big Ten

I saw that and there are some good points in there. The big one is that the big 12 won't dissolve, because it can just pick up new members. Also, with the TV deal, everyone complains about it, but there is nothing we can do, were in a contract. Also, if you read the blog comments, do all of the big 10 teams really want to fly all of their teams to Texas, and does Texas want to fly all of their teams to big ten country? That can get expensive, even on Texas budget.

And the Big 10 might not allow Texas to only play south of the Mason-Dixon line after November 1st as the Big XII does.

People often forget that conference affiliations apply to more than just Football and Basketball. Carting a Tennis team around the country can't be a profitable venture.

Even track and field and baseball. Even if baseball is not a strong spot in the big ten, they still have it, and they have a lot of baseball games. Also, would the big ten require Texas to add sports like wrestling?

I guess this announcement means that Texas has negotiated a better TV revenue arrangement with the Big12.

FWIT, Tom Osborne seems to agree that Texas has too good a deal with the Big12 to consider leaving.

Of course there's nothing there - this was a gigantic pipe dream, particularly whichever sports talk show hosts from Detroit were guest-hosting Rome's show many weeks ago and basically lambasted anyone that thought anything other than this being a great idea...
