You know what I want to see?

I want to see a 4-star high school football recruit give a verbal to GC early to get the momentum rolling for next year's class.

GC and staff were thrown into a tough situation to close up a class in short order this year. A little noise early might establish some credibility and lead to finally raising the recruiting bar at least one notch when all is said and done.

    Random wish for the day...

I'd love to see that too. Chizik strikes me as a no nonsense, take no prisoners kind of guy. I'm guessing he is going to try to make a statement out of the gates.

Anyone want to take a stab at how many 4-stars Chizik will land for the next class? My guess is 4...

I've gotta be honest. We're still Iowa State here. My guess is he won't have any................because all of our recruits will be 5 stars!!!

Just kidding. I think 4 is a pretty reallistic number, considering Mac had years with 3 or 4 4 stars if I remember correctly.

My guess is 2, maybe 3. I think that Chizik can land these types of players, but with how we handled ourselves last season, it'll probably make players a little bit leary about committing early. I think it'll be a year before we'll get 4 in a class.

Re: You know what I want to see?

I would like to see someone/anyone commit soon. I saw Minnesota has 4 already, and they hired Brewster about a month after we did. I remember we only had about 6 commits when Mac was let go in November. We need to get guys earlier than that. The best ones are gonna go fast, atleast most of em. In my mind, if we get guys earlier, theyll be a higher quality player.

Thats all fine and good about Brewster, he couldn't even recruit his own son, Nolan, who is going to Texas.

I'd like to see a big name recruit commit early, then become a big time recruiter for Iowa State.

Are we talking in-state recruits, or national recruits? In-staters will usually go quick, the best players nationally usually have a lot of good offers to weigh, so many don't verbally committ until late in the year...

Chiz needs to get a 4 star QB, OL, DL, or MLB. one or any combination of those. oh and add WR in there to

Re: You know what I want to see?

Stars are all fine and good...but they depend more on what schools covet a certain player rather than actually study of ability (doesn't matter which scouting site) There's just too many guys to do a decent job rating them. They give us a partly cloudy forcast of how the kid might do. If we got a stud next week, odds are he's 3 stars for better part of the recruiting period.(Depending on which schools try to poach.)

That said, my dream for the day: don't know who it is yet, but land the best recruit in Iowa.

I just hope Chiz still has his hand deep in the Texas recruiting cookie jar and can snag out a hand full of goodies!

Any 4 Stars will probably be JUCO's

I'd be surprised if we get any 4 HS star kids unless they are from Iowa in next years class. IMO we will need to win before will attract the better recruits.

GC is going to need to use the Kirk Fertenz method- bring in 2&3 star kids and coach them up.

I agree on the first paragraph, totally disagree on the 2nd paragraph. Mostly bcuz I would NOT call that the Kirk Ferentz method, tons have done it before him, and Gene Chizik doesn't need to do it Ferentz' way, he just needs to do it the Gene Chizik way.
