cubs Lee won't approach team about contract

MESA, Ariz. -- Chicago Cubs first baseman Derrek Lee reported to camp on Tuesday for the first day of full practice, and as he enters the last year of his contract, he said if the Cubs don't approach him about a new deal, he and his agent won't approach them.

Aramis could void his contract after this year as well meaning the Cubs could be looking for both corner infielders for next year

Maybe good news for Cubs fans that both will basically be playing for contracts this season...

I'm ready for salary to be capped at 1 million per player and all tickets and concessions are free. If you as a player don't think a million is fair salary so be it. You can work for the man.

Josh Vitters will make the team at some point this year and I cannot wait to see him prove that he is the 3rd baseman of the future.

Re: cubs Lee won't approach team about contract

Cubs will be getting younger after this year... IMO D-Lee is gone, move A-Ram and his suspect at times defense to 1B and Vitters will take over at 3B, then move Theriot to 2B and Castro will take over at SS. Use the money that was going to D-Lee to make a serious push for one of the big time starters that goes on the market like Josh Beckett, Cliff Lee, or Brandon Webb. Thats just what I would do though. Who knows which direction the Cubs will go though. I could see opening day 2011 of..

    1. Theriot
    2. Castro
    3. Nady
    4. Ramirez
    5. Soriano
    6. Soto
    7. Byrd
    8. Vitters
    9. Pitcher

    with a rotation of

    Beckett
    Zambrano
    Lilly
    Dempster
    Wells

...then again maybe im just dreaming

Re: cubs Lee won't approach team about contract

Vitters is not a 3B, he isn't very good there. I wouldn't be suprised to see the Cubs trade him either during this season at the deadline or next off season. He is really best suited to be a DH in the AL. We should sign DLee to a 1 year extension and then go after Adrian Gonzalez after the 2011 season. That would be ideal.

If Vitters isnt traded(I hope not) he will be 1B of the future. His D at 3rd is not
ML ready,or will it ever be.IMO.

Re: cubs Lee won't approach team about contract

Lee is a defensive 1B with good contact, but isn't where he was in 2006. After his wrist injury, he doesn't seem the same. I truly think the Cubs will let him test the Free Agent market.

Re: cubs Lee won't approach team about contract

Micah isn't that bad of a fall back option for a few months if needed at 1B. I'm excited to see if Nady still has some left in the tank, and if Fuld is ready to step up in the OF. I'm not buying into the SS Castro hype until I can at least see him at 3A, Fotenot was pretty good in Iowa but has fizzled a last year in Chicago.

Um, did you miss all of last year or something?
