NCAA charges Michigan FB with major violations

They have charged Rich Rodriguez and his staff of:
    1. Exceeding by five the number of allowable on-the-field coaches
    2. Graduate assistant coach lying to the NCAA
    3. Illegally monitoring summer workouts
    4. Illegally ignoring time limits for athletes and ignoring coaches' allowable duties

These are the first-ever NCAA violations charged against the Michigan football program, and the university president does not sound happy...

Saw some of this coming (workout violations). Hope they get some real consequences.

I look forward to hearing Steve and Jon's opinion on this matter since Steve dismissed the earlier problems (regarding practice time) as no big deal. Of course, he equated McDermott reinstating Colvin to cheating on your wife with a good looking women.

Some more details. This site is pretty good info-wise. It is absolutley terrible as far as fan interaction. As a Michigan fan I will say this is very disappointing and there is no excuse for this to happen under a coach that has been at this level for some time. Having said that I will also say that this is more reason to call for his head than the last two putrid seasons of football. I fully expect some self imposed penalties such as scholarship losses that will tremendously hurt Michigan's next class as they were only going to have room for about 15 anyway.

Re: NCAA charges Michigan FB with major violations

This is a joke, find me one other decent college football team doing the same thing. Heck, we even had these "optional" extra practices in HIGH SCHOOL!!!

The best part is USC and hook their players up and still nothing happening. What a joke.

Deace is fail. I cannot believe that he 'represents' ISU. It's sickening.

The practice time itself, as far as I can tell isn't going to be the big issue. It will be the fact that these QC people were coaching. I see that as the big deal in the end.

I totally agree yaman - I came around that the weekly 20-hour rule violation was just sloppy, especially since there are so many gray areas.
The violations of exceeding on-the-field coaches, and the GA lying, are much more serious.
RR had a lot of peer support with the 20-hour thing; I doubt he does with the new stuff.

Deace will tell you that it's the liberal Sparty loving Detroit media inventing lies.

When Rich Rod left a great thing at his alma mater, in his home state, one play from the national title, I called his future failure. I wonder if they'll take him back in Morgantown? My guess says "yes".

Wow. This could hurt them for a while if the NCAA will do anything to them. Bet the Buckeye fans are just delirious!

Me too. I wondered about that in the past couple weeks because they hired a former QC to be a position coach. The grad student lying thing will be hard to prove. They will have to prove he told something different than he knew. Keep in mind, these are allegations and Michigan has a chance here to provide a different story and proof to back that up. RR did confess early on there were mistakes in bookwork. My guess is 3 out of those five are proved to be true and this never gets farther than some self imposed scholarship penalties. Hopefully they learned their lesson. If they didn't they are retards.

I know I am biased here but I think it would be naive to think that there aren't corners cut and some doctoring or influencing done at pretty much any BCS school.

In fact Deace is right. The Detroit Free Press was off on a lot of things they said when you compare what they said to NCAA allegations.

I wouldn't jump the gun on calling RR a failure just yet. 2 straight top 10 classes there with a ton of talent in them. I am not saying he will succeed but I don't think 2 years is enough when you consider the drastic changes made and the terrible defensive classes brought into Michigan in Lloyds last 2 years.
