    Altman's situation brings up a ?

This whole Altman thing brought up a blast from the past for me.....just how close was Jeff Lebo to accepting the job at ISU after LE resigned? If I remember correctly, he seemed to be thisclose to coming to Ames, but his wife talked him out of it?

Interesting to think sometimes what may have been if he had decided to take the job.

I wonder why Altman didn't think it through before. Maybe it just hit him suddenly. I wonder how ****** Arkansas is.

How many of you married guys are thinking like me that his wife was all for this and he took it and then all of a sudden her second thoughts and everything became demands to back out? Does this sound familiar where your wife changes her mind, but you end up being the one having to put your neck on the line or it is your nuts on the block at home?

I would feel a ton of RAGE. Luckily for me I have a well honed machete a dense, overgrown sugar cane forest in my back yard. Leslie Charles-style...am I right!

    Re: Altman's situation brings up a ?

When they showed Altman at the Arkansas press conference trying to follow that crazy cheer they have, you could just see that he was feeling uncomfortable and out of his element, so I wasn't shocked when I heard he had an 11th hour change of heart.

Even though he's had a very nice run at Creighton, I'm sure he's got some major making up to do with his players and the Bluejay fans. Also, this provides some nice amunition for the coaches who recruit against him to say that Altman is looking to move on to a bigger program.

This column has some ideas on why Dana backed out the way he did. Basically, the pigs are running a dirty athletic department, playing ineligible players, players peeing hot, players getting paid. He didn't want any part of that, and just left without giving a reason, taking the high road.

Not as ****** as Dana will be if he ever loses his job at creighton, because NO school will take him after what he just pulled.

Sure, AR is going to flaming mad and the folks in Omaha probably don't know what to think. To say this hurts his chances at a job somewhere else in the future however is not necessarily true.

Let's say Altman does go to the pigs and under his watch they are nailed with numerous NCAA violations? It seems like there are rumors that program is dirty. THAT would ruin his career choices.

Interesting read...and that very well could have happened. It answers the question "well, didn't he think about the decision beforehand?".

    Re: Altman's situation brings up a ?

Frankly the one thing that has always amazed me about coaching searches is that in the interest of time and confidentiality they don't hardly ever get a chance to fly in, tour campus and visit the town, or do the same with their wives and family. The first time they get to get any feel for town is when they come for the presser, ala Lickliter, who commented that his wife had spent the day before looking at houses. And frankly no matter how good the job is, if you are comfortable both in terms of finances and family, where you are at, the last thing you want to do is move and come home every night to a miserable wife and kids. How many people have ever been to Fayetteville? Whether you like it or not, it's very different from Omaha, at least in my opinion. Good, bad or indifferent, it's different.

Its amazing what they coaches do when they only have hours to think about taking a job or not. Didn't Chizik take our job without coming to Ames? How embarassing would it have been for us if Chizik held that press conference at Hilton and then the next day said....I am going back to Texas. Arkansas must be ******.

I can't imagine Omaha and Fayetteville being even remotely similar. Never been to Fay but have heard about it. I don't doubt that given the choice the wife and kids would prefer Omaha.

I think Arkansas is a little miffed...

    http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2824653

    from the article...

White said he wished Altman well but was hopeful that the Razorbacks and the coach would one day cross paths.

"The No. 1 priority is doing what's best for you and your family," White said. "I'm looking forward to meeting you in the Final Four and beating the socks off you."
