Re: Three future Cyclones crowned state champs in Iowa

Just curious if anyone knows why we chose England over Weatherman (UNI signee)??

ME fished his way out of a takedown at the end of the 3rd then won in OT with Weatherman taking an aggressive shot. Also Brock has two state championships to his credit along with a hard fought second this year.

Seems like BW would have been a more solid choice for ISU??

Pretty good sign for the future of Iowa State wrestling. I know the Morenos and they are one heck of a wrestling family. Way to go Coach Jackson.

Weatherman is a good wrestler but his head isn't always in wrestling. He tends to be very lackadaisical when it comes to wrestling. If he was "all in" he would have been recruited harder.

How many in-state champs does Iowa State sign each year? Not trying to sound pessimistic...it would seem we might sign nearly this many every year? Or am I way off on this one?

This. Nice showing for the J-Hawks at state this year. 3rd place in the team race with only 5 qualifiers. Not too shabby.

I think we sign a few but we are ranked 2nd in the country. It seems as if we are doing pretty well that way.

Agree. I love the direction our program is going...just wondered if this year's signings represent a change of direction?

We need to find the best wrestlers, if their from Iowa, its a Bonus. Typically, our best wrestlers are out of state.

    Fanthorpe - illinois
    Reader - michigan
    Ward - illinois
    Varner - California
    Z - New Jersey

I think the Paulsen twins and Long might disagree with you. I know Long hasnt proven himself yet but the potential appears to be there.
