Re: Huggins looking at WV job?

Not really surprising. West Virginia is a good program with a lot of history (can you say Jerry West) and a decent amount of recent success. Passionate fan base as well. And let's face it...someone like Huggins is only going to be able to "take" living in the "wilderness" that is Manhattan KS for so long.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

I believe WV is his alma matter.

I wouldn't complain about him leaving the B12 North....he had a top 5 recruiting class in his 2nd year.

Re: Huggins looking at WV job?

He would have to want out of Manhattan pretty bad to take the WV job. The KC Star has K-State listed as preseason top 10 team for next year based on getting Michael Beasley (6'9 beast that was MVP of McDonald's HS All-American game) plus getting Dominique Sutton (top 100 guard) plus getting Bill Walker back.

The only reason to take the WV job would be the $$. He is getting paid about $800k at KSU and WV may be willing to offer significantly more. Heck, EIU is paying Lickliter $1.2M per year.

I would think it was hilarious, because KState fans thought he was the second coming and that he'd never leave manhattan. Why would he? ;)

WVU is located closer to many major metropolitan areas. Plus they aren't exactly known for academics, so admission is even easier. Huggy would be better off there. Drinking is embraced there too so he wouldn't have to worry about that either.

Re: Huggins looking at WV job?

If HuggyBear leaves Manhattan, I would expect at least two of his 3 big name recruits to follow him. We need to remember that they committed to play for Huggins before he was named coach at KState.

what are the #s on McD's contract again? Is he possibly in line for an early adjustment due to the contract figures being cited in this year's search? I would hate for him to feel under-appreciated after just 1 year...

He recruited most of those guys when he didn't even have a job. Those kids are commited to him regardless of the bold type on the LoI. Huggy goes to WVU then top 10 class goes to WVU. We should be taking bets on if any of them call the coach out for making contact from the new job. Bobby is an experienced rule skirter though so I would guess no infractions will be obvious.

Re: Huggins looking at WV job?

I think a lot will depend on the buy out clauses in his contract.

Not sure if the players could transfer? Remember Virgina Tech wrestlers and Tom Brandt?

I am all for him taking the West Virginia job! Kansas St. would have never landed that quality of a coach if he didn't come with some risk attached. WVU is perfect.

I hope huggy stays in the big 12, it's always good to have a strong league and I can't stand the guy so it makes it fun to root against KSU.

Re: Huggins looking at WV job?

K-State would have to release them from their LOI's or they would have to sit out a year. Va. Tech wouldn't release the wrestlers. That is how I think it went down anyway.
