    MEN'S BASKETBALL: Support amidst struggles

makes it pretty clear in their he doesn't consider internet posters donors

I admit - I don't give much, but I do spend between $400 and $800 per year in Cyclone Athletic Tickets between Football, Mens Bball and Women's Bball. The only way I ever give to the University as a Donation is 1) they catch me on a really good day and 2) the person calling speaks English well enough I can understand them. these 2 things rarely happen on the same day.

Appears the Orr Comparisons were used a year ago, I doubt they can use those again. but I will also say, this team if back again next year is a player away from success. For LE - that was Tinsley, with out Tinsely, they struggled too.

What do you mean by "the person calling speaks English well enough I can understand them" ?
I don't get calls from the athletics dept but I did get calls from the Alumni Association.

There are lots of seats in the donor sections that are empty lately; especially in the last two home games. Most, if not all, of these "no-shows" have never logged onto a message board.
Jamie can't ignore that. He can't ignore the apathy...

Really need to find a new word, mainly because at this point I don't really think apathy describes what fans are feeling.

NHL teams need to be added to the favorite teams section.

Re: What Pollard Said 1 year ago

Pollard has said before that when he gets emails and letters from fans he does find out whether they are a donor, and if so, at what level. That's really hard to do from message boards. In reality, Pollard's right. Someone giving money to the athletic department should have more say than someone posting anonymously on a message board. These boards represent a vocal minority of the overall fanbase. Although there are plenty of people on here that donate money, your NCC contributions do not show up in your sig line. I would be concerned of any AD that takes a message board into account when making decisions.

Re: What Pollard Said 1 year ago

So the question is how much money does one need to give to get a new coach? Maybe CF can raise money and become that magical donor that can get through to JP.

I think you'd be surprised how many donors there are on here, many at higher levels. Most just choose not to flaunt their donor level on the board.

Re: What Pollard Said 1 year ago

I've been able to understand all the annoying phone calls I get from the Alumni Association, College of Business and marching band. All of them get the same answer: No and please take me off your list.

As for the quote from Pollard, I understand what he's saying. How many people that post on these boards, more than sporadically, are in the top 50% of donors? I would guess very, very few.

What qualifies as 'top 50%'? If you say 'top 50% of cyclone fans, by donation level (to include those that dont donate but come to games), id bet there are quite a few in the top half of all fans.

Re: What Pollard Said 1 year ago

The Orr comparisons are ridiculous. Johnny inherited a disaster that had been a disaster for 40 years. Greg inherited a team that was one year removed from the NCAA tourney. Plus, Johnny went to the NIT in his 4th year. If we were going to the NIT this season, I doubt many would be thrilled, but there also wouldn't be the majority of people wanting a coaching change.

They need every dollar that they can collect since they are in last place. If they were not making money calling people, they would not be telemarketing. Some of their biggest fans are on this website. No reason to submarine what support they get.

At this point can we honestly say the team is better than those of the last two years? The record in the end is all that counts. While Johnny's teams were getting better, we are currently staying static. The trend was better under Johnny than McD. Perhaps if MG and CB come back, the glide path would suddenly improve.

Also, is it a wise move on Pollard's part to alienate any portion of the fan base right now? I have a feeling he is going to need all the ticket buyers he can get next season.

All of that said, notice we are hearing nothing like this out of Pollard this season.

Re: What Pollard Said 1 year ago

That's one thing that Pollard does that bugs me. I'd bet every poster on this message board spends at the very least between 200-400 hundred a year on ISU athletics (many much more I'm sure). Individually we may not be much...but collectively there's a whole lotta scratch between us all going his way. By ignoring the most vocal proponents/fans/fanatics in favor of a few big donors....that crap I bet fly's at schools like Texas but do that at ISU and you're in for more trouble than he realizes.
