    Cyclone Offensive Line Update

Here's a link to a story I wrote in today's Trib about the progress of the O-Line this spring. Enjoy.

    Re: Cyclone Offensive Line Update

Really good read. I'm glad to hear it looks like Schmeling will eventually be moved to center. You have to put your best 5 out there and that move allows Blaes to start. Schmeling also is the most experienced so he should be most adept to the switch.

Also, does anyone has any concrete proof on what year Dedrick is? This article says he's a soph, but I'm pretty sure he's a jr. Hopefully he is a soph bc he really needs to put on some weight and strength to start in the Big XII

I don't know if I would call it "good stuff", scary stuff is more like it. The uncertainty of this group has to be unsettling for the new staff. A successful season will depend greatly on this o-line.

    Go Cyclones!!

I think Reggie will benefit big time from the coaching change, and ultimately become our next all conference performer. I thought he was not only the most improved line man at the end of last year, but perhaps our best as well.

Any update on Landon? I have not seen his name mentioned on the Cardinal, Gold or White teams?

We have a 270 pound left tackle? Uh oh.

We had a 320 pound LT last year who killed us repeatedly. Rather have feet at that position than slow bulk.

Having a 320 pound tackle that was bad does not make having a 270 pound tackle protecting our QB's blind side good. Time will tell, but that doesn't sound good on paper.

Word is the left side of our line will be the strength this year - based on what the coaches have seen so far.

Who cares how it sounds on paper. OL size in college football is probably the most overrated stat.

In pro ball it matters, because all those guys except Robert Gallery can move their feet.

    Re: Cyclone Offensive Line Update

Here's a little more info on Schmeling...Coach McFarland did mention that Tom had been giving some snaps at center...but, Tom told me that he is "not very good" at the position. He played there briefly during his red-shirt season and didn't like it at all. However, obviously he isn't making decisions and is getting snaps in practice. I know that Coach McFarland said his name, but I'll be surprised if he's the center come September.

Well when it's April and "on paper" is all we have to go with, then I care. Like I said, time will tell to see how it works out. Now you can remove the stick from your brown eye.

Well that is kinda disappointing. How has Blaes looked? How do you think he will fit into the picture?

I think it's overrated in the pros too.....the Denver Broncos have consistently had one of the best O-lines in the NFL for nearly ten years now and also one of the smallest.
