    That would be "firmly IN-Trenched"

Yeah, looking forward to special team play as well. I think alot of fans easily over look just how much of an impact this area can make in games. I can't remember the last time we had a return for a TD or a blocked kick.

If history is any indications the secondary should become a solid unit. Looking forward to seeing what happens.

The last blocked kick I can remember off the top of my head was the one against Iowa in 2007. There may have been one since but that's the last one I remember.

Re: Bobby Elliott hired to coach defensive backs

    Completely pumped about this hire!

Just to confirm, Elliott left for KSU to be DC. Also ISU assistant pay was insulting back then.

Those of you bummed about losing Ash recruiting - It's not like the guy was pulling top 100 recruits left and right. He persuaded guys to choose us over the Central Michigans. Pretty sure Elliott will have no trouble doing the same.

Now if we can just get Loney to coach OL.. ha!

Re: Bobby Elliott hired to coach defensive backs

Honest question -- why did he go from KState DC to San Diego State DC?

Re: Bobby Elliott hired to coach defensive backs

    From what I could figure:

    81-82 ISU assistant
    83-87 UNC assisant
    87-96 Iowa assistant
    96-98 Iowa DC
99 Iowa athletic department (bone marrow transplant)
    00-01(2?) ISU assistant
    02-05(6?) KState DC
    06-08 San Diego State DC
09 San Diego State athletic department (fund raiser?)
    10- ISU assistant

Re: Bobby Elliott hired to coach defensive backs

So he was Iowa's DC for 3 years.

I remember Bill Brasier I didnt know BE had that job for 3 years.

    Cancer really set him back.

He always wanted to be a head coach and that day has passed but its good to have him on board. He hates Iowa more than anyone so he will fit in just right!

If you have a problem - if no one else can help - and if you can find
them - maybe you can hire: The A-Team.

He did almost have Joshua Shaw sewed up in July, the same Joshua Shaw who exploded nationally and is now an early enrollee at Florida....

Snyder "retired" after 2005 and Ron Prince brought in his own DC. Elliott was a good enough DC that Chuck Long snapped him up at SDSU real quick. A lot of older guys would have ended up out of a job for a year or two in that situation I think.

He wasn't retained by the Prince staff because in the few years he was there he turned the top 10 defense he inherited into the worst defenses Synder ever had his last two years. Which was one of the biggest reasons people started calling for Synders head and why he retired.

Three of the worst years for Iowa football also a large reason Iowa fans started calling for Fry's head. There defenses were terrible. The only thing Iowa fans feared more was they thought that he was going to be given the head coaching job because of his dad. I do not like this hire at all. I really hope he proves me wrong but there are too many times when he was given the keys to the defense and he drove them into the ditch. I just hope he can handle a position coach.
