    Westbrook and Clarke

I was watching Rotnei Clarke tear it up again the other night for Arkansas and I remember thinking, man his name is familiar. He was an ISU target at one point.... Then, the next day I watched Lawrence Westbrook at Minnesota tear up Penn St. and I just started thinking... what if we would have landed these two guards? WOW... We would be a DIFFERENT team... These two guys can shoot, handle the ball, and get to the rack. I especially like Rotnei Clarke. He is just a gamer... I don't know how close we were to him, but I remember being VERY close to getting Westbrook.

You can thank Jamie Pollard because when Wayne Morgan fired...Lawrence Westbrook decommitted along with P'Allen Stinnett...

They both would have transfered or quit by now.

In this case, you probably do owe Pollard a thank you. You can start with asking Dana Altman if he wishes that he could have a redo with P'Allen's scholarship. If you remember LW's recruitment, it wasn't a decomittment. He was released because of unreasonable conditions that a 3rd party member tried to impose. In hindsight, he has produced on the court, but that was never the issue. Tubby took the risk and got the production that he hoped for. But that is no guarantee that LW would have been a good fit for McD's system.

    Re: Westbrook and Clarke

I remember a little of Clarke's recruitment, and I don't ever remember ISU being a player. Scout and Rivals' lists back that up.

    Scout.com: Rotnei Clarke Profile
    Rotnei Clarke - Yahoo! Sports

Clarke is basically a shorter Lucca Staiger with a tad better stroke. He's a nice offensive weapon, would be a valuable offensive piece on a team with better players around him, but not a player who can lead an offense. And on defense, he'll never be better than below average.

lol, and then Stinson bolted and Blalock tested the NBA waters, and 1/3 or more of our team left.

I hate coaching changes when your team was decent.

Because he's not 100% bright, not because of his ball game.

Where's your jimlad on that one?

Have you watched him play this year? He's tough... he can create for himself, he gets to the hole when wants to, and he WANTS the ball when the game in on the line... he'd have been an outstanding player for us. He is SO much better then Lucca Staiger... it's not close....

basically what everyone is saying that if WM is still the coach the team is probably a LOT better off.

That is NOT EVEN CLOSE to what I'm saying... I'm just looking around the country at some quality guards and thinking, "wow... this team is short on adequate guards and that'd be outstanding if we had one or both of those guys on our team like they maybe could have been..."

Kind of the same way, but not to the same degree, that I'll watch Harrison Barnes in the next two or three years and think, "Man... that'd have been nice...."

[QUOTE=Clonegrad07;1549071]That is NOT EVEN CLOSE to what I'm sayingQUOTE]

So you think that WM would have ISU in 13th place right now in the Big 12?

Let's face it, we all wanted McD to succeed thinking that he was guy that we all like plus he was a good basketball coach. Unfortunately after 4 seasons we have seen anything but a good coach and his ability to recruit and retain is questionable at best.

I think if WM was still the coach, ISU would be fun to watch, pull off some upsets and be in the 3-7 range each year in the big 12. I don't think he would have taken ISU to an elite 8 or even a sweet 16, however he would have had in the dance mostly because of talent he brought in.

Better? Probably. It's definitely hard to imagine that the results would be any worse over the past 3+ years.
