"The idea is to let people bet on professional sports, not college or amateur events, said Sen. Jack Kibbie (D-Emmetsburg), the Senate president"

I have no problem with allowing betting on sporting events but what a bunch of polital BS that above statement is. Trying to make themselves out to be responsible. Bottom Line ---- they need the money and some day when they need more they will allow betting on college sports too.

    Re: Sports Gambling

Judging from the CyBookie results, I think this could net the State some serious cash.

That would be some serious $$ for places like Praire Meadows.

Think of it, a huge bar, sunday ticket, drink specials, $.25 wings, and betting on the NFL games.

How much illegal sports gambling in the state goes on right now? I have a buddy that is constantly on the phone and always has a couple of sheets with him at all times.

Agreed. Could be dangerous for some. I know a few people that work in the casino industry and they seem to think this will come to pass sooner or later. The state needs the money and it's just another way for them to get some.

    Re: Sports Gambling

First, the federal government needs to pass a bill allowing states to make this sort of law. Second, if Iowa were to someday adopt gambling on college games you can pretty much kiss any hopes for any NCAA postseason events in Iowa.

From what I heard the motion passed in Iowa would only allow gambling on professional sports. Collegiate sports were off the table.

We get women's postseason sometimes for basketball, what else is there that you could bet on? Oh by the way, Iowa will not be the only state to allow this. The NCAA will need to find someplace to go...

Allowing me to bet on college sports would be enough for me to not care if events ever came here.
